Talking Summer heat and children

I have heard how bad the heat is from May - Sept or maybe longer. What do you do with the kids during this time. I currently live in Northern California in the bay area where you can do soccer, swimming lessons and tons of stuff outdoors during the summer. I have heard that you can't really do that in Arizona because of the heat. We are moving there next year and I am wondering what everyone does to keep the kids busy. We have two boys ages 2 & 1.

while 2 and 1 is relatively young compared to my 9 year twin boys who are with me for the summer from MI. I will say that they have gotten cabin fever from staying indoors alot. But kids seem to adapt to the climate change faster than adults. Everyweekend we try and get away to do something fun, water park, amusment park, Disnely land, magic mountian, Flag Staff, slide rock.....etc. just gotta keep em busy. But honestly are 2 and 1 years really involved in a whole alot??

Yes, I understand that a 1 & 2 yr old are not involved into much but I am looking at when they get a little older not now. Just wondering what other people do with their kids to keep them entertained during the summer months. I didn't mention that I also have a 17 yr old son too. During the summer months here they start football practice. I am sure with the heat, it's not the same there. Thanks

For several years I would leave for the summer and go up to NY. It's a bit cooler up there.

Basically, it gets to be pretty hot during the afternoon and anything in the direct sun could prove to be too much for them. But, kids are resilient, especially since they will be raised here. Plan more activities in the early morning or later that evening.

Most sports start when school starts. Swimming lessons are in the summer and the city has a bunch of indoor programs in the summer Glendale, AZ - Parks and Recreation . Story time at the library every T and Tr. Sewing class at the fabric store once a week. Ice skating at the rink.

It is hot but in the mourning our 3 oldest. 8, 3, and 1.8 have no trouble playing in the back yard. We went for a walk to the park this mourning. It was only 77d at 6:30.

You'll make do.

Most of the neighborhood will stay inside during the day, but our community pool is very busy come late afternoon early evening. I do see parents with very small children at the pool early in the a.m as well. It is shaded then.

our local YMCA has a pool that is fairly sun protected - also there are community pools and home pools

also most cities have tons of activities going on - i know in goodyear there are a lot of programs for children that are a reasonable cost through the city

i also have a coworker who has kids highly involved in the local boys & girls club

aside from that the stuff that kids would normally do - play outside a little when the weather isn't too bad, watch tv, play video games, read, etc

You will get ideals from other Moms and Information on summer programs that are mostly indoors, that offer, gym, crafts, and swimming. There are summer programs, you have to look for them and ask around. Swimming is great, but you can't spend hours outdoors as the sun is way to intense and would be terrible for their skin.

I also have 1,2,and 4 year old. I do a lot of stuff at home with them. I try to set-up little obstacle courses, silly dancing time, coloring time, etc. It takes a lot of work but I do try hard to vary it up every day. We have ice cream breaks every afternoon. I also take them to play at the tot areas at the malls. I take them to the library. I signed them up for My Gym. I also take them to the local community church which turn their gym into an indoor play area for tots. But basically everything is indoors.

At these ages, it's difficult to take the kids swimming because I don't have 3 arms and none of them know how to swim. I also don't take them for walks in the morning because I guess my kids just feel the heat more. Their faces get all red, they sweat and want to go home . So I just keep them indoors a lot.

swimming lessons can be done. Soccer games i usually see done during the night. I don't know what it is, but you get use to the heat and your body learns to cool off without sweating like a piggy. Any outdoor stuff you do, bring lots of water.
