No, I'm not talking about the one Tuesday in LA...I felt one on Mon in Phx!
Anyone else? Am I hallucinating? I live just a bit north of Carefree and was taking a nap at about 1:30 monday afternoon. I woke up to a jolt and I heard the huge pine tree by my bedroom door swaying. I thought it was a wind burst at first...but after I walked into my living room I noticed one of my massive (over 100 lbs) paintings was crooked...so was a smaller one in the dining room (over 50 lbs). These things never move because they are so heavy. So, I thought...maybe it was a land shift under my house, as it is built on a knoll on the side of a mountain. But after hearing about the big quake in LA on Tues...I wonder if it wasn't part of that quake (in a way). Anyone else feel anything about 1-2 Monday afternoon? |

I am an hour and a half north of the Chino Hills quake yesterday and sat on my sofa watching my whole house move around me. Quakes are part of SoCal life but that was strong enough I thought "Uh oh, here comes a serious one!" and started a quick mental checklist: dogs, water, food, gas in the motorcycle? I was really surprised to discover it was so far from me. Usually that kind of intensity means you're right on it. Must have been freaky in the Chino area!

The epicenter was about 12 miles NW of me, it was a good shake, luckily, no damage.

Nope. Not even a quiver in southern Arizona that I'm aware of... ...unless some of them Californians (who have taken over the Rita Ranch area) in Tucson felt something... |

Hmmmm....Maybe it was just a coincidence. It was a day before the LA quake anyway...and nobody on any local news said anything about it. Maybe it was a wind burst...one of those micro burst things without the rain? Still don't get why my big pictures moved. Very odd.
I wonder if there is going to be a HUGE earthquake somewhere like Iran in the next few days, weeks. I've noticed that the earth always evens itself out with these quakes. If it does happen in Iran (I read they sit on a horrible fault) it might make the nuclear problem less of a problem...though I wish the people no harm. Will be interesting to watch the sisemic (sp?) activity around the world the next few days. |

That has to be the number one thing I miss about CA the least, along with forest fires. We just missed being on the bridge in the big earthquake in San Fran in 89.

I remember the Northridge quake...WOW! I lived in a canyon area and I was looking out my kitchen window, having my coffee, watching the bunnies run around the yard and the birds hop around the pool. Then it sounded like a train was going through my house. I was paralized and watched as the water sloshed back and forth in the pool. Beyond wierd and something I don't want to experience again. Then again, 3 years ago, my neighborhood nearly burned down from that big fire north of Phx. That was even scarier. You wake up and smell smoke and realize that you might not make it out if you make a mis-step. At least I don't have to worry about flooding! My insurance agent said if you live on or by a mountain, it can't happen. Makes sense...and one less thing to worry about. |
