You betcha'!
2.5 hours north east of Phoenix on the Mogollon Rim. I've been in AZ for a long time and this may have been the first time I've been camping in this area and it was simply amazing. It was great...temps in the high 70s during the day...quiet...very relaxing. We drove sort of off the beaten path and camped by ourselves....the next nearest campers were maybe 1/2 - 1 mile away so it really was very quiet and relaxing. Can't wait to go again. Road in... ![]() Our camp site... ![]() Gathering some wood... ![]() Peaceful... ![]() Awesome views... ![]() Road back home... ![]() |

yeah - it's really nice out there ...... i've camped out there before in a similar site ..... our friends have family who live up in that area, so now we usually just stay at their house instead of roughing it

can you give some hints to a newbie to camping in AZ, this looks like exactly what I have been looking for-can you be a bit more specific like what road this is closest to? thanks for any info!

in the area we go the closest road would be 87 - you can pick it up in the east valley or you can run the 17 and exit camp verde and connect with the 260
a lot of it is in the Coconino National Forest and served by Forest Roads here is a link to the dispersed camping guide on the national forest webpage Coconino National Forest - Dispersed Camping just be prepared - pretty soon it's going to start getting cold at night and it can be hard for the mind to adjust to that when you live down here in the heat |

Woods Canyon Lake and Willow Springs lake are just a mile or so from where he took these pictures. That whole area is gorgeous. 1 1/2 hour drive from the east valley. 8000ft + elevation and temps in the 70s and 80s all summer.
I happen to enjoy the heat in the valley, but for those who don't...you can drive less than 2 hours and completely change climates. |
