Wink Moving to Arizona from Florida

My husband is transferring to Glendale, Az this summer and we have 3 children under the age of 7. I wanted to know what are some good kid friendly communities in the area. Someone mentioned Surprise, AZ. How can I find out more information about the public school systems in the area???

Go to greatschools.net for really good school information. Surprise is a really good family community and is really spread out; make sure it's not too too far from where in Glendale your husband will be working. My folks live in Surprise and most of the schools are pretty new as Surprise has grown a ton in the last 4 to 5 years. One negative that my folks have heard from their immediate neighbors with kids is that due to the rapid growth, Surprise has had a hard time hiring enough teachers to keep up with the demand of classrooms. It's probably worth checking out the student-teacher ratios of the various schools that would service the specific communities you look at. Good luck!

North Glendale is a very nice place to live. We have many things to do here, like a waterpark called "WaterWorld" is great for kids.

Peoria is a very nice area, with very good schools. I've also heard Surprise has had some problems w/ rapid growth in the schools, increasing class size. Another nice area is the Deer Valley area, which also have good schools.

Default Schools and activities are important

GreatSchools.net is a great resource for independent information regarding area schools. The Arizona Department of Education also has a very informative website with school report cards. As for activities, Arizona Parenting and Kids Celebrate magazines are great resources to find things to do. Of course, you may also want to make sure your community/neighborhood has parks, playgrounds, activities, etc. targeted for your kids age range. Being that summers are a little warm here (120 was the high last year), you may also want to consider some sort of community pool, water park access or better yet, a home with a pool! You can usually get all the above infomration for free by requesting it from a REALTOR. If you haven't already secured your new home, use a free e-mail service like the one found at SearchMetroPhoenix.com to see detailed property listings in any Phoenix community. Oh, and you can e-mail the website for a relocation package with school, home values and activities information. Hope this helps.

Why does everyone want to go to Surprise? What's wrong with North Glendale? I couldn't sell a house to anyone in surprise back in the 90's and I still don't see the attraction up there. My 2 cents for what's it's worth. I could be missing something.

Surprise is a decent town, and its growing like a weed. Alot of people like being part of a new community and some might not want to be in North Glendale. They choose to live whereever they want, its no big deal. You couldnt sell a home there in the 90s? Whats the difference today? EVERYONE there seems to be having a problem selling homes, no matter what town. LOLOL
