I am curious how many people does not like to live next to railroad tracks and/or express ways? Would you move if you could? And how many people simply does not care?
I have seen many newer homes built right next to RR and Hwy, and I wonder how the traffic noise affect you. I have not have experience living next to either kind of infrastructure and I would love to know what your experience is! |

...And while I am asking the questions, let me add one more: How do you feel about high tension power lines running within 100 yds. of your property?

I may live next to a railroad line because I am interested in trains, and I live next to a main road here in the UK, and you sort of phase it out after a while.

I grew up near train tracks, so I really never thought much about it. Now I live about 2 blocks from the train and I can hear it if I listen, but it doesn't bother me. It would probably be the same with the Hwy.

I had a train that ran rite behind by place. It would shake every time a train came by and the tv would loose reception. Drove me nuts.

Airports, highways, and train tracks do not affect me. I'm a city dweller. After a while, the noise from these goes unnoticed, even at night. I have never been kept awake, or been awakened by any train, aircraft, or vehicle after acclimating to a new residence. In fact, when I have a hotel in a remote area, I have to create some sort of noise with the ventilation system, or I am unable to sleep because of the quiet. |

If I was a home buyer the answer would be no to all the above. If I was renting I would try to determine the health effects and whether they would matter enough to worry about.

Normally you get used to the noise after awhile, and simply don't hear it anymore....so its not usually a big deal for some people. However, in terms of resale if you were to purchase the home....it is much harder to sell and is not sought after.
