I said nothing about illegal immigration, so I have no idea why you keep focusing on that. But, to answer the first part of your question, the reason I am concerned with the way "criminals" are treated is because I am a human being. First off, many of the people aren't even convicted yet. Ever heard of "innocent until proven guilty." I realize that is something Ole' Joe would like to get rid of, but thankfully we still have that protection. I for one am going to stand up for it. Secondly, people have died in Ole' Joe's custody. I am sorry, being caught in a DUI or being caught with a couple of joints doesn't deserve death. Finally, I care (and you should care) because Ole Joe's antics have cost all of us millions of dollars from suspects who have brought suit against the county for mistreatment and wrongful death within the county jail. Compound that with the negative image this guy protrays to the world; makes everyone here look like a bunch of Wild West hicks.

Well, maybe you could provide the information that shows me that Sheriff Joe has killed someone caught with a joint or driving drunk. If that has ever really happened, it would be wrong.

You ask me why I keep focusing on illegal immigration? Isn't that the point? Sheriff Joe is enforcing a new Arizona law regarding illegal smugglers....if there was no illegal immigration, ppl prob. wouldn't hear so much about Sheriff Joe. He isn't going out into the desert and executing Mexicans, hes rounding them up and putting them into the judicial system. This lets the judges decided who's innocent and not. Just because ppl like me want criminals punished doesn't mean I'm some "wild west hik." I just really think it doing our society a grave injustice when ppl get so focused on protecting the criminals and not protecting the victims.

Im not so worried about how "international groups" think of the way we run our country as I am keeping my family safe and healthy. Statistics are just that, statistics.

Lastly, do you REALLY think lil ol Joe from Arizona is the reason
ppl have been mistreated in Iraq?? I mean really......that just seems silly.

Look into the Scott Norburg case. The case ended up settling out of court for $8M that way Ole' Joe didn't have to testify. Brian Crenshaw was another man who died of extensive back and neck trauma. Ole' Joe says he fell from his bunk. Amnesty International showed how extreme and deplorable the prison system is here under Ole' Joe.

Wonderful reflection on the entire community of Arizona. And then people on here question why people think Phoenix is so backward?

But who cares right? They are "criminals," probably poor, and why should I care? I'm out living in my walled subdivision, driving around in my SUV, and Ole' Joe is "keeping us safe." Guess that is why the crime rate is so low here, right?

And P.S., no I don't think that the Bush administration copied Ole' Joe, but they definitely are cut from the same cloth. Both are misguided, ignorant, and out of control.

People are innocent until proven guilty of a crime. If you are arrested for whatever reason and can’t make bail you will spend time in the jail until your court date. I don’t believe inmates who are waiting for their court date should have to suffer the humiliation and treatment provided by the jail systems here.

Those who are guilty of a crime need to spend the time in jail. However not everyone that is arrested is a criminal who should be unjustly punished because he can’t post bail.

There is nothing that protects you from being falsely arrested other then the police officer’s opinion at that moment of time.
