I know thats a bit of an extreme example, but it's perfecly legal now, which is insane.
Youre right, thats a bit extreme.

However, it was comforting knowing that the neighbors were looking out for everyone. Im sure youd feel the same after 4 break-ins occured on your street in a 30 day period. One lady woke up with the intruders in her dang bedroom! She was lucky that they fled right away, some people sadly are murdered by intruders. Now if we wanted some privacy, we drew the blinds and they didnt bother us, simple as that.

I do agree, however if someone was looking in my blinds, there would be a problem.

Rather than rely on tips from outsiders, the govt can have direct access and incriminating evidence when they spy. If youve got nothing to hide, who cares?

This reminds me of when we lived in TN, we had a neighborhood watch (after several break ins) where residents were encouraged to keep a close eye on each others' property. Some residents even took to driving around in their cars at night, almost like they were on a patrol beat. Theyd pass by the house and look in (if the shades were open), we took this as a good sign. I took no offense to that because it meant they were willing to do whatever it took to ensure the safety of the neighborhood. Of course we'd wave and theyd do a little honk back to say 'hi', and they went on their merry ways if they didnt see anything to be concerned about. I see this on the same level as the govt is doing, theyre dropping in and checking on things, making sure everything is ok. If there is nothing to be suspicious about, they move on, big deal. Like I said, if youve got nothing to hide, dont fret about it. Had I seen a car drive by our house and peek in that I didnt know, Id be calling the cops, but knowing that theyre there to help was reassuring to me. I take the same stance on govt spying.
I respect your right to have your opinion but I’m going to have to side with the founders of this country who believed so strongly in protecting the civil rights of citizens and limiting the related power of the govt. that they enumerated them in the Constitution. There’s a big difference between being tough on crime and abusing power for personal agendas. Again, I like some of what Sheriff Joe has done in office, but he’s also crossed the line a number of times and the most of the local media have never bothered to call him on it - which is their job. He’s a master of PR and manipulating them with “feel good” press conferences that the under-informed public eat up (Tent City Idol, for example). The few outlets that have spoken up are ostracized, denied access (and the courts have slapped Joe with penalties for this), and in the case of New Times, have been harassed and intimidated. New Times has a lot of money and lawyers so I’ve never really been worried about them holding their own in their battles with him. But in this case, he and the country attorney took a swing at any and all of us who have visited their site, which had no baring on their current legal fight. It was simply a bullying move by the sheriff and county attorney – two offices that should be above that kind of thing.

And what are you doing about it? Posting in a public forum doesn't keep Joe from doing it. It's not as if he's the only one doing this sort of thing. Think RIAA or government agencies who demand private data. Why don't you offer a practical and feasible plan for people in this forum to participate in, rather than attacking them for inaction.

Well...The people win!! The pressure put on Joe and his cronies today caused them to drop the case against the New Times (just saw it on the Fox 10 news)!!

The DA admitted he handled the case very poorly...Joe claimed he and his wife are the victims (typical of Joe).

Second. As an owner and operator/designer of a website I will tell that I do have access this this info on my website. My website logs the IP, the referring website, the website you went to after you left, how long you were on my website, which pages you visited while you were on my website, which browser you used, which country you come from, and so on...

If you do not believe me google it. Maybe the Mod can chime in...as he can see/find your IP very easily...
So.... just so I can be sure I understand what you are saying here, please tell me if I misunderstood something. From what I understand from your statements...

#1 You are opposed to government officials having access to this information because you consider it spying.

#2 You collect the same information about people who visit your website.

So you are spying on people and it's o.k. in your eyes, but the government officials better not do it.

Did I get that right?
