No actually his is not the face you should put with it. He is the Maricopa County Sheriff not the Phoenix Police Chief. He also didn't have anything to do with the punishment of the police officer who killed the police dog. BTW, the officer left the police dog in his car all day as he ran errands and went out to dinner and even spent time at home. Why didn't he notice the dog was missing? Or did he just not care? That is most people's concern. I know if my dog was missing for even a couple hours, I would wonder where he was if I was home.

The sheriffs tactics have done nothing as far as the recidivism rate. I believe there should be some drug treatment and maybe some educational help for longer term offenders. Jail and prison has become less about "rehabilitaion" and more about "punishment". Unless we are willing to educate and or give drug treatment help to these people then we will have to continue to build more jails and prisons. Just my opinion. ![]() |

There are a number of drug / booze rehab programs available AND, there are classes available - some to help inmates get their GED, and other courses are made available |

I agree, at least he is trying!
Would you rather have someone that hides behind a lot of psychobabble and political correctness and see nothing getting addressed or someone who isn't afraid to be "hands on" in actually trying to resolve issues? |

I still believe he spends more money in lawsuits than any county should. I read that he had to reduce visiting hours in the jails to save money, $900,000. How much is he spending with the extra people he uses to go after the illegals? He is taking a federal problem and making it local. Greatday> There is nothing in the jails and some inmates sit there for up to a year before being sentenced. They are just wasting space. They get to watch the cooking channel on tv and can only get books mailed directly from the bookstores. Some of the poorer families can't afford to send reading material from the stores. They should possibly supply school books(maybe no longer used by the schools?) or something educational. <just my opinion ![]() |

You might like to know that he hasn't been the first to die or probably the last. Where has human compassion gone? Quote:
He is already over his budget so either he doesn't care and these officers will be getting overtime or He will be taking them from possibly catching criminals somewhere else. ![]() |

Sheriff Joe is at least doing something to get tough. He isn’t willing to compromise. And all the “what about criminal’s rights” liberals are ready to give the criminals all that we law abiding citizens work so hard for….Freedom from crime. This is part the problem with society today, we think that we are forced sit back and accept what is going on around us and compromise our safety and peace of mind for a little piece of the American dream. The police departments
We all need to wake up, band together and do something to take our communities back from the criminal element that live among all of us. We, as a country need to stop tolerating this behavior and get tougher on criminals period. And Sheriff Joe is doing something to help. I don’t care where they came from legal or illegal Why are our soldiers overseas supposedly protecting our freedom? I think our children should be free to go out and play, we should be free to walk our streets without fear from criminals. I believe that our troops should be here working to secure our country. The US military should be here protecting the US and the citizens here, rounding up illegal border crossers and sending them back. If they want to come to America then enter legally and through the proper channels. Last edited by LivinInLaveen; 12-07-2007 at 12:05 PM. Reason: Showing font |

you arizonans should live in LaSalle county, IL. It is a joke, the sheriff does nothing, the states attorney lets everyone off the hook. I only hope someday sheriff joe retires there and straightens their arses out.
