He is just a publicity hound. Like Silverbear, I was a supporter of his for a long time because I thought he was tough on crime but you realize he essentially does nothing and seeks publicity.

Being from Calif. I can only refer to our street/highway laws. Any vehicle observed with a crack in the windshield is automatically pulled over for inspection. The officer routinally asks for DRIVERS LICENSE/VEHICLE REGISTRATION/PROOF OF INSURANCE. This is a FIX IT TICKET, not a moving violation. Due to a large number of hispanics in CALIF. and (probably) ARIZ. as well, it seems logical that a MEXICAN (excuse me HISPANIC) is behind the wheel. I am retired in BAJA MEXICO, and it is common to see many cars with cracked windshields. Many where the passenger has left a large circular crack from the impact of a acident or a fast stop (rear ender). The police here never bother the drivers. If you drive at night with only one headlight you are guaranteed to be pulled over very FAST. I know cause it happened to me. Now you can understand why athey (hispanics) are pulled over so often. They do not (in most cases) have a mexican drivers license to begin with in mexico, so why have one in the states. BUENAS SUERTE, Stefhen

Our famous Sheriff has just payed out another 2 million of OUR tax dollars.
They didn't want to go to court in case the jury sided with the parents of a legally blind man who the sheriff's office said fell off his bunk and broke his neck, all of his toes and his duodendum was perferated. He was also, according to the medical staff at the jail not supossed to be in tent city and he was supossed to be on his medications. He was instead, sent to tent city and not given his meds. He acted out with a guard and was put in solitary. 6 days later he was found with his injuries and taken to the hospital, where he later died. He was in jail for shoplifting. According to the defense attorney the sheriffs office was caught destroying the video tapes of the time spent in solitary. They deny this. Arizona Republic-Tuesday 1/15 How many people have to die under this mans care and how much money do the taxpayers have to pay before they realize this is not the way people should be treated, even if they are incarcerated? People shouldn't die for shoplifting. |

Come again? Who killed the guy? He fell out of his bunk. Is he somehow entitled to special treatment because he's "legally" blind, which is quite a far cry from totally blind?

I cannot believe there are folks here that feel bad for the criminals in the county jail. What about the victims of these crimes? Have you ever had your car stolen or broken into or do you know someone who has been a victim of a crime? I have and would never feel sorry for these criminals.
As far as the crime rate, city police are responsible for that. Sheriff Joe treats inmates like inmates, the way it is suppose to be. His recidivism rate of about 16% at Tent City vs. the national average of 85% tells it all. |

Do I feel sorry for criminals...No. Do I think it is right that a nearly blind man died in Aparios custody? No...Death for shop lifting is not justice...You like that..then move to the middle east... |

So , do you think it is ok for a man to die for shoplifting? I cannot believe the people on here that are ok with people dying for petty crime. Hopefully these same people will never have a friend or family member come under the care of Sheriff Joe. |

Can someone tell me where I can read some "bad" stuff about the sheriff? I keep hearing people complain about his treatment toward inmates but cannot find any sites that give real information. I like what I have heard about how he saves money with cheap meals, but I don't want to be ignorant if he is treating humans poorly. I feel that if you break the law, you need to pay the price, but you are still human. I would like to read up on the subject.
