I DONT BREAK THE LAW. I ALSO DO NOT BRAG
IN THE NEWSPAPERS THAT "I WON" WHEN
SOMEONE WHO WAS IN THE COUNTY JAIL
DIES & THE FAMILY BRINGS SUIT AGAINST
THE SHERIFFS OFFICE & THE COUNTY.
WHY STOP AT PUTTING HIM IN CHARGE OF
THE BORDER, WE COULD ALWAYS SEND HIM
TO IRAQ TO BE IN CHARGE.
WINKKELMAN:
" USES PRECIOUS PUBLIC MONEY WISELY"
THIS COUNTY HAS SPENT MORE MONEY IN PAID
LAWSUITS BECAUSE OF SHERIFF JOE & HIS
POLICIES THAN ANY OTHER IN THE COUNTRY.
I AM ALL FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS
AND WOULD ANYTHING IN MY POWER TO HELP
GET THEM BETTER WAGES,ETC;
HOWEVER, SHERIFF JOE IS A FASCIST.

I would also recommend Ole Joe to be put in charge in charge of Border Control.
|
You really have that much trust in him? I like his stance on crime but he is as crooked as they come. Just look at his track record of lying and set ups. Very Political. Very old school. Would not surprise me if he is one day brought up on charges.

You say you don't break the law. Good for you. Have either Joe or his deputies harassed you or mistreated you in any way? Didn't think so.
On a personal level, Joe seems to be a publicity-seeking jerk (uh oh, now I may hear from him), so I try to avoid any personal interaction with all jerks.
The question really is, "How should criminals be treated?". In my opinion, that is a philosophical issue. You have your opinion and you take your stand accordingly. It is obvious to the readers where you stand. When the "fascists" become the minority, Joe will be kicked out of office.
It seems to me that Joe's methods are pretty simple. If you do the crime, be prepared to do the time - in circumstances that won't be very pleasant. I worked with a guy once who had spent 30 of his 45 years in jails and prisons in California. He told me he missed being in prison. How many people would say that they missed being in Joe's jail? If you resist, especially in a physical way, your circumstances will become much more unpleasant. Anyone with a lick of sense won't want to encounter Joe again and will behave accordingly in his county. Stupid criminals however ... well they don't need to be out where they can produce even more stupid people.

You don't know my "stand" I really don't give a hoot how CRIMINALS are treated, so it is NOT obvious where I stand. My belief however is
"innocent until proven guilty" There are many people who sit in
jail because they have no money for bail, they have been wrongly
picked out in a lineup,or just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I do not believe in mistreating those awaiting their day in court.
Afterwards, if found guilty, then do the time.
Some people become "institutionalized" and prison then becomes a safe place for them, that's probably why your old boss said what he did.
Stupid people, wheither criminals or not do not always produce more of the same. That was a very ignorant statement.

Many of the replies on this subject are disturbing . . .
These GOONS are criminals and should be treated as such, green bologna sandwiches and all. If their Sheriff Joe experience is ugly enough . . . maybe they'll think twice before breaking the law again.
Our society is going down "ye ole poop chute" with special demands in the prisons and pseudo "rehabs" that are nothing but posh and totally useless SPAS.
As I posted earlier . . . WE NEED MORE SHERIFF JOES!
MY TWO CENTS WORTH.

I love how the crime keeps getting worse and worse in Arizona and yet people continue to support this old fool. Shows how stupid people are out there. Maybe the sun has fried their brains.
I just feel bad for the innocent people under the thumb of this moron, including the sick guy that was under Joe's custody and treated like a criminal for months locked in solitary confinement with no television or access to a telephone. The poor guy wasn't convicted of anything, but Joe didn't care. He just continued to treat him like garbage because that is what Joe is, garbage. I watched that national program on that very case and Joe was trying to justify his despicable actions and just made himself like more of a horse's ***. But the hicks in AZ will continue to elect this media ***** because he's an institution out there. A real black stain on that state.

One thing bothers me...
As a 25 year police veteran I can say that there is one bit of truth here that has always bothered me. When someone is arrested and then pleads not guilty they are locked up pending their trial. If they have money for bail, which can be very expensive, they can bail out until their trial. If they don't have the funds for bail they must be imprisoned until their trial. What a lot of people don't realize is that sometimes they can be there for a YEAR OR MORE awaiting trial. The courts are so back-logged that this problem exists. Now, even though that person is innocent until proven guilty they are in prison with people who have been found guilty. They get no special treatment and they are not kept in a separate part of the prison. That has always bothered me because it is known that not all people charged with a crime turn out to be found guilty later. I feel that people awaiting trial should be housed in a separate area away from the other prisoners.

Inmates awaiting trial ARE seperated from sentenced inmates.
All of the inmates in the Tents have been CONVICTED of a crime.
The other jails hold unsentenced inmates.
