Default Getting to N from Airport (public transportation)

I live in Glendale and work at the airport. Can anyone help with suggestions of getting back and forth with any kind of transport other then and auto. Anything will HELP.

You can take the Red Line Valley Metro bus to the airport. It makes a lot of stops; so the trip is pretty long. You have to first get yourself to the MetroCenter bus stop from Glendale to catch the Red Line.

Valley Metro maps and schedules are on their website, but also get yourself a paper Bus Book available for free at some libraries and stores.

I would only try that solution if you have all day to kill. Next best thing is try to find a carpool person on Craigslist or Back page and ride share with them.

The Red Line is the best option for the next few months; however, the Red Line will go away (http://phoenix.gov/publictransit/buschange.html - broken link) at the end of the year when it is replaced the new light rail line. When that occurs, you'll have two options:

-- Route 15 from MetroCenter to the Airport. Route 15 is going to be extended at both ends to cover some of the local traffic now carried by the Red Line.

-- Take light rail from Christown to 44th St. & Washington and then transfer to the airport interterminal bus, which will provide the interim rail-to-airport connection until the airport people mover is built.

Closer to 2009, Valley Metro's Trip Planner (http://tripplan.phoenix.gov/cgi-bin/itin_page.pl?resptype=U - broken link) should be able to tell you which is the quicker option. The Valley Metro site can also advise as to the best bus to catch from Glendale to your transfer point at MetroCenter or Christown. If taking a bus from Glendale to your transfer point is inconvenient, you could split the difference by parking at MetroCenter or Christown, where there are 100s of park-and-ride spaces available, and then taking public transit for the rest of your trip.

I agree that carpooling is the obvious idea. I was surprised to read statistics that despite the cost of gas, very few people carpool. The other possibility is - I wonder if you could persuade the airport shuttle to make some kind of deal with you, buying the equivalent of a monthly pass for a much-reduced rate.
