People who complain about Phoenix traffic need to read this thread. There is no comparison between a city that truly has a traffic problem (L.A.) and Phoenix...even when the snow birds are back in town it is no where near L.A. status.

Is Google Maps Accurate on Driving Time?

Are we comparing it to CA traffic in this thread? Did I miss something?

I'm tired of people telling me that I have nothing to complain about when in fact I do. I was almost hit about 5 times coming home yesterday from work. Luckily, I pay attention to the idiots around me to be able to avoid them. My major complaint are the stupid drivers we have, along with the traffic.

You're right of course. When you get stuck in traffic here in Phoenix, there's really no comfort in knowing that it's even worse in LA. Stuck in traffic and dodging the demolition derby drivers sucks no matter where you happen to be.

So, so true. When I worked in the central area and drove over, I would always at least have 1 or 2 incidents' per round trip when someone would pull out in front of me, only a few feet of space here or cross over from the other lane and almost smash into me. This was consistent, week, month, year.
Yes, there are alot of drivers who are either preoccupied with other things than the road or are in la, la land (heat burning the synapses...).

This thread never intended to compare Phoenix traffic to that of L.A.'s. I think we're all in agreement that the traffic of the Los Angeles area is worse than Phoenix's ... but you're also comparing a metro area with over 15 million people to one with 4 million. If we're going to compare Phoenix with another region similar in size, we should be looking at Seattle, Atlanta, Detroit, or Boston ... not L.A., Chicago, or New York.

But Phoenix still has its share of problems. It was recently ranked 13th in metro areas with the worst congestion. The daily traffic reports always mention the 60 through the east Valley being slow or clogged during rush hour, and that freeway has 12 lanes in most areas. I live close to the 51 and Camelback, and I have found that taking the 51 can be a nightmare during peak times. It seems that there's just as much stop & go on surface streets as there is on the freeways.
