Hi everyone
I wanted to say thanks in advance for your valuable responses. After researching many different locations in Arizona, I keep coming back to Mesa. Reading the forums I hear many mixed reviews but I guess that's just because Mesa is like every other place in regards to having some residents love it, and some hate it. It seems like a relatively safe place to live with some decent jobs available. I just think Arizona is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. My mother went to PSU and couldn't stop saying great things about your state. I have never been to AZ but would obviously plan on going before making the move, most likely next summer sometime I am currently a 22 year old white male and would be making the move with my girl friend, same age. We were looking at apartments and found a place called Palms at Augusta Ranch,9335 E Baseline Rd. I was wondering if anyone had any information about that place? It looks to be on the east side of town near the GM Proving Grounds. I am aware of things like the heat and dust, none of that bothers me, more interested in meeting some nice people and the scenery. I love the out doors and fishing. Any good places to fish around there? I also would like to know if there are any places to go snowboarding up north in the winter? We currently live in Massachusetts. Both are in the banking / finance industry. Any honest input about Mesa would be wonderful! Thank you! |

The Augusta Ranch area is pretty nice, and so are those apartments but VERY far east Mesa....not close to any major cities like Phoenix, Tempe, Gilbert, Scottsdale etc. Since you are new to AZ, I would recommend somewhere closer to those areas, so you can get out and enjoy what AZ has to offer and meet new people. There are some nice places closer in, but still in Mesa. I also recommend Gilbert for apartments too, if you are still considering other cities aside from Mesa.
I'm not a big fishing fan, but the only places I know of to fish would be the lakes around the area, such as Saguaro or Canyon lake. Snowboarding puts you up in Flagstaff at Snowbowl or in Pinetop at Sunrise. Its a hit or miss though, sometimes they don't get enough snow to open for a long length of time. Good thing Tahoe is pretty close! ![]() |

The Augusta Ranch area is very nice. There are several brand new shopping areas just east of there, and you are very close to the 202 and the 60 freeways. Mesa and Gilbert are right next to each other, so you could be in Gilbert in about 5 minutes.
For fishing, we have urban lakes, but the closest real fishing would be in the Salt River, or Saguaro Lake. The lake would be about a 30 minute drive from that area. |
