Hi Phoenix people. I have been posting in the Las Vegas forum and the Phoenix forum. I am having the hardest time in the world deciding where I want to live between the two. There are so many things I like about each. I am the worst person in the world to make a decision. It's awful..lol
I was hoping someone on here could help me. I already live in Arizona, just not Phoenix. I have been to both cities. So please if you can help me. I love the hot weather of both. I am not looking at the job market right at this moment just trying to decide what city to live in. Thank You AZtoLV |

Nevada doesn't have state income tax. Not sure if that helps, but it is good to know.

Have you gone to college? What kind of work do you do?You need to look at tuition, job market, etc.Unless you are pulling in several grand a month, I wouldn't worry about state taxes.I hear the school system is better and that there is a limit to class size.Give us something to work with informationwise and we will determine your best choice.

Las Vegas is centered around the Casino world and there no escaping that. That could be an issue to some, but not to others. Phoenix is not.

There is more to do in Vegas as a result of the casinos. More high-end shopping, more restaurants, more nightlife, more concerts, Lake Mead for water sports, etc. To me, Phoenix is what Vegas would be if there were no casinos. The two cities look very similar, although Vegas has taller mountains where you can actually going skiing and snowboarding in the winter if you wanted to. Vegas is closer to LA for quick weekend getaways. However, if you are not into the whole Vegas scene, Phoenix is a nice place to live. There is good nightlife in Scottsdale and Tempe (where Arizona State is located), water sports along Lake Pleasant and Roosevelt Lake, and Mexico isn't too far away for weekend beach getaways. Cost of living is MUCH lower in Phoenix than in Vegas too. |

I've lived in both for about 4 years each. I describe LV in this way, "It's a town where everyone's excited but nobody's happy." It's a bit of a generalization but most who have heard it pause and agree.
The biggest problem with LV is that they do nothing that would distract you from gambling..no parades, fairs, cultural events... (This was ten yrs ago, maybe things have changed) On the up-side as long as you've got $$$ to burn there's always a show or club or casino to go to. I did like living there after I learned how to (it takes a little while) but I would definitely not want to stay there for the rest of my life...four years was just about perfect. PHX has been a much healthier experience for me - in just about every sense of the word (except that right now the economy gets a big thumbs down...but that's good news for someone looking to get into a house!) |
