We will be visiting PHX the end of next month & have some questions about the traffic. We will be leaving Sedona on a Sunday afternoon to head to our hotel in Chandler. What would the traffic be like on a Sunday afternoon - I-10/I-17? Also, our flight leaves at 12:30 pm on a Monday, so if we left our hotel around 9:00 am, would we miss the rush hour traffic to get to the airport on time?
We're also thinking about staying at a hotel closer to the airport, returning the rental car on Sunday night & taking the hotel shuttle to the aiport if traffic would be a problem Monday am. Thanks for your help. |

It will probably take you 30 minutes to get to the airport, 45 minutes max unless there's a crash somewhere along the way.

On Sundays, the traffic is hit and miss along the 17 as you get a few miles from the 101, but often it is backed up on a Sunday afternoon from everyone driving home from their weekend getaways.

Check in with the ADOT website before you leave Sedona to get any info on freeway closures for Sunday. Many of the constuction restrictions will be posted. Otherwise Sunday will not be bad. Mondays trip to the Airport will prove to be a bit of something you probably will not enjoy. I do recomend leaving early and not chancing the gamble of missing a flight. You can skip the freeways all together by seeking out a different route. But you are correct in that the majority of trafic will die down by 9:00.

sunday return can get a little congested, especially as you near anthem and approach the 101 .......... there is a good amount of congestion at that point as the weather is still a little warm and weekend trips up north are still a go .......... really not too much to worry about though, just don't make set in stone plans for that afternoon, early evening
airport should be fine |

But, this is a holiday weekend!!!
The last holiday it was a CRAZY mess on the 17 until you hit the 101! Even on Sunday let alone Monday. Monday to the airport may not be as bad. The freeways within the city are usually DEAD on a holiday. That's one reason I work the holidays. |
