Cool 20-somethings visiting Phoenix area in early October for football game...NEED HELP!

My friends and I plan on driving to the Phoenix for the Bills/ Cards game in early October. We are torn. Where should we stay? We are all twenty-somethings looking to have a good time (bars/clubs) the Fri/Sat before the game.

Should we stay in Glendale? Should we just stay in Phoenix and drive to the game Sunday morning? How long would it take? How about Scottsdale? How's traffic?

My friends and I would appreciate any and all information!

Thanks!

anything really...anywhere there is beer and good looking people. Nothing too upscale. We are more sports/ college bar types

The Mill Avenue area in Tempe might work for you. Scottsdale would be nice as well.

college bars would be more in the tempe area

you could stay by the stadium and have a lot of bars and the game within walking distance

or the arrowhead area - 10 to 15 minutes from the stadium and a lot of bars and restaurants

phoenix would probably be a no go

scottsdale is really fun to some and not so much for others - i'm more of a laid back bar kind of guy and really do not like scottsdale that much - although it can be fun to check out on occassion

There's several sports oriented bars right next to the stadium at Westgate. I had a good time at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville not too long ago. It's pretty cool - designed to look like a marina. FOX Sports Bar/Grill is in Westgate too.

I would find a place close to Mill Ave and just drive to the game Sunday morning...it's about a 30 minute drive.

Mill Ave is going to give you the best atmosphere...lots of people walking around, lots of bars and a few clubs, lots of college age people.
The Westgate area near the stadium is ok...but it doesn't have the party atmosphere.

in the westgate area there are great places to drink beers (yardhouse has over 100 taps), listen to music & drink (margaritaville) plus a dueling piano bar (shout house), a lounge (hells half acre), sports bar (fox sports grill) and a place like saddleranch which will open this weekend which seems pretty neat

check out the westgate webpage for more what's going on there - could make sense to stay there for the weekend and maybe cab it to tempe for a night

not necessarily true - go to westgate on the weekend or around the time of an event and there is definitely a crowd there

plus go up to northern and you have places like Sandbar

I agree that there is a crowd...but it's not the same crowd/ambiance as Mill Ave where it feels a lot more college like.
