Default Electric Bill for the city of Maricopa Residents Only

UGH, I just got my full monthly bill for my new home and it's $267!
Our house is just 1250 sq. feet, one story, no pool, north/south exposure and we run the AC between 81 and 84- never run the AC any lower than 81.
I was reading the other electric bill post and it makes me mad that my bill is as high as some people with large two story houses with a pool!

When I called Electrical District #3, they said that I was doing everything right to conserve power and my bill seemed normal for Maricopa (Pinal County). Oh brother... I can't wait for winter when I will run no heat or no AC.

The only thing I can think of is I need 2 window coverings but I would not think that that would cause my bill to be so high.

So I'm trying to find out what an average bill is in Maricopa since ED3 could not tell me. Thanks.

APS or SRP? Our bill was 212$. 1673Sq/ft, 80 during weekdays, 77 at 5 when we get home, 74 after 9PM for time of use savings. 76 during the weekend daytime hours for time of use savings.

It's neither APS or SRP. It's Electrical District #3. If it were APS, I could go on the Equalizer plan but I do not have that option with this electric co.

I wish I had the luxury of running my air at 77- I just gave in this afternoon and lowered it to 80 today since it's so humid out.

I keep my house 1300 sq. ft. at 80 when i'm gone and 73-74 when i'm here and haven't seen over $250.

the rental house we had before this was about twice the size and twice the bill with us keeping the temperature much higher.

Where were you before this, how much were you paying and what were the details of that place?

I was in Phoenix before in an apartment- about 1100 sq. feet, bottom floor- paid $127 a month on the equalizer plan- average about $190 a month usage and we ran the air at 75-76 degrees.

Maybe my AC needs to be serviced? Or maybe I need sun screens on all the windows. It feels quite cool in the house at 81 degrees though. If you can keep your AC at 73-74 and have never seen over $250 something must be wrong.

Do you have any special window treatments or any other "green" features in your house?

That's Maricopa for you! Ours used to run $260-- 1600 sq ft at 81 at night and 83 during the day. We are now in Gilbert and have SRP which runs us $177 with the same sq footage.

Thanks- makes me feel a little better knowing someone else paid that outrageous price too and kept their AC high. My parents have SRP and their bill is only $150- house is 1000 sq. feet and they run the AC at 77-78. Well, 1600 is 350 sq foot larger than our house and our bill was $267. I hope that with sun screens and all the windows covered and maybe an AC tune up, we can get the bill down to $200 a month while we are using the AC. What a P.I.A. though!!!!! I did notice that the rate per kWh is a lot higher than what my parents are being charged for with SRP.

Yes, this is normal for ED3. I think there is a very (very) small part of Maricopa City that can get APS direct, but for everyone else, it's ED3. One good thing about ED3 is they now have "Time of Day" service, which might help.

Wait until you get your water bill from Global Water!

My house is new construction (4/2008), R30 roof, 13 seer compressor, north south orientation and a 2 story on each side. The 2 story homes keep a lot of the sun off my house, i think that helps me a lot. I have compact fluorescents in every fixture except the kitchen. Only 2 of us live here and I like the dark, so I only use the lights when necessary. I also have all electric appliances, no gas in my development.
