The puppy can fly in the cabin no matter what temp, but would have to be accompanied (go under the seat) so she'd have to go out there herself.

You're right about cargo--lots of horror stories with little puppies. Even if it wasn't anything too horrid, I've heard some pups end up really skittish after that experience--sometimes for life! The breeder we used would not allow our pup to go in cargo no matter what temp. which is why we flew out and got him.

Default 75 degrees?

Why 75 degrees?

I'm asking because the indoor temperature in my home is typically 75 degrees in the summertime thanks to air conditioning!

Are you saying that the puppy cannot breach 75 degrees at any point in time?

Is it due to the cargo area or live animal holding area of the plane not being climate-controlled?

My dogs are small and they are outside/inside, depending on how hot it gets outside...

Drive to Iowa and bring the puppy back by car...That way walk her around when she needs to go. You will also get to bond with the pup more on the road trip back.

It's a three or four day trip, each way, and I cannot take any time off from work. Otherwise, great idea!

Snub nosed puppy. Federal law prohibits (thank God) transporting one of these via plane in temps over 75 degrees, for the puppy's well being.

The average for 75 degree temps for highs is Nov. 14-15. The last few years have been close to average:
2007 Nov. 22 first day 75 degrees days after; 69, 70, 67, 65, 74, 75, 72, 68

2006 Nov. 25, days after; 75, 72, 69, 65, 58, 55

2005 Nov. 25, days after; 76, 75, 60, 60, 65, 70

The night time temps for 2007, 2006, 2005 have been between 40-60 beginning Nov. 1 and a few nights were close to freezing. Hope it happens sooner or you can find another way to get your pup here quickly.

definitely best of luck - if you end up flying and bringing back (especially given the size of the breed) check into allegiant air

they fly out of mesa and go into cedar rapids - the scheduling for their flights is not daily, but you can occasionally find a pretty good price (for example I had a roundtrip priced from mesa to belleview, wa for $80)

i'm sure the breeder is going to want to be compensated for holding it after 8 weeks so it may end up cheaper to just fly up with an FAA carrier and let the little guy/gal ride under seat

High of 75?? I'd kill for highs of a dry 95. Anyone here check the 10 day forecast, 110 on Thursday, and 111 Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So 75 might be a while away.

That's not the official (NOAA NWS) forecast. The highest temp they forecast in the next 7 days is 106. More importantly, the overnite lows are going to drop 10 degrees from what they have been running for the last month and dewpoints are going down 20-30 degrees. All of which spell lovely mornings and quick cooling after sunset. It's going to be quite nice actually.
