I believe Naperville has been voted #1, #2 best places to live by Forbes for several years now as an accumilation of allot of factors from meduim income, cost, schools, activities?

I have never been to Chicago, but have known many people that are from there and they always speak with great affection for their city....maybe with winter weather as a sidenote.

MrRudy...What things do you specifically like about Phoenix that you are concerned you will lose by moving to Chicago?

There are some people on this thread specifically that know an awful lot about Chicago, so you should be able to weed through the advise and find some good answers,

Remember life is an adventure! Very admireable that you are doing research for the harmony and protection of your family, I applaud your maturity at 17...

Otherwise, I'm not sure what point there really is in living there and putting up with the crappy weather and boring topography. I've always believed that a suburb is a suburb basically anywhere- once you're living in suburbia, you might as well be anywhere; the burbs of any major metro area in the country will offer essentially the same things, with minor variations.

But if I did have to live in a suburb of Chicago, I'd pick Evanston. Beautiful place, university town with all that it has to offer, and at least you're close to the lake- the one major thing geographically that Chicago has going for it.
well said.

Here, knock yourself out. Here are TONS of Chicago suburbs pics that Ive taken within the past year or so. Most are of the western burbs where I reside, but as they say, "a picture is worth a 1,000 words". Knock yourself out.

Some suburb pics (56K BEWARE!)

It has a very good hospital:
Lutheran General has been recognized 10 times as one of the 100 Top Hospitals and 15 top major teaching hospitals in the country. Since 1999, Lutheran General has been rated by US News & World Report as being one of America’s Best Hospitals, and received ‘top 50 in the nation’ rankings for medical excellence and advanced capabilities in many specialties.

Bunker Hill Forest Preserves - Acres of wildnerness with a path for walking, bicycling and even horseback riding! Many areas to picnic. Here's some info:
Part of a 100-acre chain of forest preserves on the city's Northwest side, Bunker Hill features a variety of scenery, from restored prairie land to whispering forests. This is the starting point for the North Branch Bicycle Trail, which runs north to the Lake County border and is open to cyclists and horseback riders.

It's got a population of 30,000 and 24 city parks, including a historic 9 hole course that only costs $14.00 for residents!

Niles is home to 1300 businesses!

An excerpt from the Encyclopedia of Chicago:
The only Chicago suburb to offer free bus service to major shopping and recreational facilities, Niles transports more than 350,000 commuters annually. Residents have access to extensive services, ranging from senior citizen centers to six hundred park district programs to counseling services (many of these services are free to Niles residents).
Thats pretty cool!
Sounds exciting lol.

Well first of all thanks the feedback, and the applause =]

Well i think the main reason i like phoenix is because i got family here. But hey, at some point in your life, you have to grow up and let go. My family is really close and i guess just loosing and not seeing anybody anymore will hurt me. But like i said, every man needs to grow up, and live his own life. I also agree how you said that life is an adventure! I love to travel and all and see new great things. So i get really excited about moving, im just scared to loose family. My moms a single mother so its tough for her to get things wrapped around her head, and since im the oldest of her 4 kids, I just get really stressed and worried to how the move can affect my mother, and my younger siblings life.

Well, if you like an adventure, youll definitely find it in Chicago. Are you prepared for snow and occasional temps that are below 0 degrees? I know, I know, thats part of the adventure, but some people dont. The good thing is that winter offers sports that you cant do in the spring, summer and fall, if youre into sports.

If youre ever in the area, let me know, Id be happy to give you pointers.

One of the similarities between Phoenix and Chicago is that both are major pro sports centers. Quite a few transplants and winter visitors here are from the Chicago area, and they love their sports teams. Of course, Chicago's teams have been around longer, and are very well known. Phoenix has all four major sports, but most of them were established in the last ten years or so.

Come on, Steve! Phoenix has some of the best suburbs in the country. Scottsdale is well known for being upscale and having an active nightlife. Tempe's Mill Avenue district is always bustling. I can't say much for Mesa or Gilbert ... but Chandler has been a hub for electronic firms which provide better paying jobs. Glendale is up and coming as a sports & entertainment mecca. Many of Chicago's suburbs are bedroom communities, but a good share of Phoenix's are separate cities with unique identities.
Actually the City of Phoenix is twice the size of chicago in square miles.

Phoenix 550 square miles

chicago 210 square miles

Phoenix is also not done as seen with the annexation of the Anthem neighborhood.
