Default Bugs living in empty house in Maricopa city

I just bought a house in Maricopa (the city). It was a foreclosure and has been sitting empty for a while. I'm not sure how long exactly. I am kind of afraid of what could be living in or around the house. Is there a good chance of finding scorpions or snakes? I looked in every cabinet and closet so I don't know where they could be if there are any. Should I have an exterminator come spray?

Thanks!

Ok, then. You need to call an exterminator.

Sorry for the obvious question. I'm new to Arizona and new to buying a home. Do you know how much it costs for an exterminator?

Depends on the size of the lot and sq. footage of the house. My house is around 2500 sq/ft and I've been quoted $100-$160 every three mos. Haven't done it, as I've not seen any critters in my house or anywhere in the area. But this house didn't sit vacant for more than a few weeks before we moved in.

My house sat for two years before I bought. Found a big black scorpion in the ring of the toilet. Lots of big hairy spiders for the first two months. I have been spraying outside with ortho and they have disapeared

Call a bug guy. He will spray you and let you know what kind of bugs you have. They know where to look. If he only finds crickets and ants you won't need to have him back. I don't know anyone in Maricopa that doesn't have scorps though so you might as well start a contract.

I doubt you'll find any snakes in the house unless there was some food material laying around. Scorpions possibly, but a slim chance. Spiders, crickets other little crawlers maybe.
There are numerous exterminators in the valley. Be sure you get a licensed one. Cost may be around $100.00 for a one time job. If you get on a contract, as many homeowners do, then the costs would be around $25.00 to $50.00 per month, year around, depending on what service you contract for.
Or you can go to any Garden Center and pick up a DIY ready to use pesticide container for around $25.00 and take care of it yourself.

My current property sat vacant for about 4-5 months. No bugs. I've been in AZ for 2 years now and honestly haven't had the need to set up a costly contract with an exterminating company and I live in the desert among the critters. There is plenty of bugs outside where they belong. Actually, I would be more concerned about the chemicals.
