My girlfriend and I are a young couple (23) from Los Angeles attending college right now. We are thinking about relocating and finishing school in AZ due to the lower cost of living/better quality of life. We were origionally set on taking up the north scottsdale area, but are also open to other suggestions. I am a car salesperson and I hear that there are a lot of good dealerships to work at to make a decent living. anyone know anyone making good money in the auto industry? She wants to join the nursing program and it is very hard to get in over here. Does anyone know if it is any easier in Phoenix. The government pays most of her schooling. She makes about 17$ an hour as a receptionist over here and she needs to find a job over there that she can make comprable money, not equal but close. Are we being realistic?

Well, a receptionist job here may be $10-12/hour. You can't compare L.A. to Phoenix with income.
The nursing program through the community colleges take a couple of years at least to get in once you are on the list. |

Auto industry have been tough...with no one buying too many car...find an eco/green dealership and you will make money... I say you guys start saving...downsize...get into the program first...then move...also decide if you guys want to be with each other...no need to move and then break up and you are stuck. |

My daughter signed up for the nursing program after completing her AA in May - her wait, so they say, is at least 18 months. And you may want to check first to see if the nursing schools here give preference to AZ residents, rather than people coming from out of state. I don't know if they do or not.
You are in car sales --- I'd check the auto sales job market here before moving. From what I hear, they can't give cars away right now.... As for your girlfriend and a receptionist job here - maybe a law firm in downtown or Scottsdale might pay $12 to $15/hour??? Just do your research first before making the big move here. We are having pretty hard times right now....... |

The way I see it you've set your standards too high. You say you want to live in No Scottsdale, that's probably the highest rent district in the State. Look into the surrounding areas/cities before you decide to settle down here.
Most everything is cheaper here in AZ vs CA such as homes, wages etal. You'll need to adjust to that. Times are tough for a lot of people here. Many foreclosures,a lot businesses going out of business and many people looking for work in all fields. Auto dealership jobs are going to be easy to find, but hard to make a living as many salespeople are leaving the dealerships due to poor sales here. Nursing jobs are a better bet but you better know someone or have a referral since local people genarally have the advantage. As others have above have said, re-read them, as they are right on the money with what they are telling you. |
