When I moved here to take a better position within my company, I thought it was going to be a good change of pace, you know nice weather, good looking women. I went with what I heard. However my biggest blunder was not checking the demographics and the cultural views. I was surprised to see that there were many white people living here and not many black people. That was not the problem because I stayed in Iowa and enjoyed my time there briefly. Iowa a place that is overwhelmingly white and I felt more comfortable there.

My biggest shock was how ignorant people can be here. After a month went by I quickly found out through observation and experience that many of the people here are just not intelligent and lack common sense. Most of the women here have absolutely no substance and seem uneducated...like talking to naive teenager. You said it correctly, this place is backwards...and quite arguably the most backwards place I have ever been in so far. The incompetence that I have experienced here over a short period of time, makes me wonder if it is driven by the color of a persons skin. Thankfully my experience in Arizona will be over very soon.

Just a wild guess, but I imagine any place you stay more than "briefly" you will encounter the same backwards, unsubstantial, ignorant, etc. people. It must be devastating to be so superior and not have people recognize it. Another wild guess....nothing to do with skin color.

I've had a steady Kuwaiti girlfriend for 3 years, and in my opinioon, the most honest woman I ever met. Good post. The OP, I'm sure is a nice person, but clearly has an issue with those who don't agree with her political leanings. Honestly, most people keep their politics to themselves...but if you are strident about the "evil" conservatives, I imagine it will dribble out sooner rather than later and you might turn a few people, both libs and conservatives off for being closed minded. Oh, did I say that the uber caring and oh so much more evolved lefty could possibly be closed minded? Why that would be impossible!

I live up past Cave Creek. Believe me...most of the guys carry guns up here. I've taken to trying to see who at the bar in Harold's has one under his shirt. The number is pretty high, although it is against the law and a serious crime.

That said, it's kind of wierd up here. There are still a lot of ranch guys and girls that carry them for protection against wildlife. In fact a bob cat walked in front my husband this a.m. as he was on the front porch having coffee. He said it had a large rabbit in his mouth, looked at him and just mosied along.

My husband carries a gun pretty much everyday. And he is just your average business man.

I feel VERY safe walking around Cave Creek. Pity the poor fool that tries to do something really agregious (sp?)...They ain't gettin far.

Frankly, I think anyone who can't see through the falseness of McCain (current incarnation) and Palin (scary, scary, scary) must be pretty darn backwards and uninformed in their thinking. I'm a live and let live kind of gal. If people want to carry guns and thump their bibles that's fine, just don't try to impose your views on me. Similarly, if you want to be a vegetarian, ride your bike to work and wear healing crystals that's fine, but don't tell me not to eat meat and drive. Around here so far I've seen a ton of McCain bumperstickers and no Obama ones, so I wonder if other liberal-minded folks feel out of place here or if it really doesn't matter?
Are any North Phoenix areas more or less conservative than others?

I am white and my husband is hispanic a dark skinned one at that and so are my kids. I never thought we were interracial but I guess with all this interracial warefare lately I guess we qualify. We have been married for 26 years and I can't think of a time where my husband or kids have complained about any racist comments. I remember when we moved from the west side to Gilbert everyone told me don't do it they are racist there, your kids will never make the sports teams in Gilbert. Yeah well bull donkey! They did. They also had friends of all colors including Mormons who are said to be cliquish. I think if people are looking for racism they can find it but it will be coming from shallow people with no common sense so why even give it a thought?

Funny thing is when we were living in NorCA in a very liberal area, we managed to make some of our best friends who don't exactly think like we do. We love them just the same. On any side of the fence there is always room for civil discussions. Look for the good in people first and that will help you settle in any type of town you choose. You can always dig up garbage and just need to avoid small minded people. Good luck where you go.
