Did anyone hear about this? It was a dangerous weekend in AZ for drivers.

Some of it I blame on the design of the roads here. I live in Tempe, and it is difficult to downright dangerous to make left turns in many areas here. This is because you often have to cross over many lanes, in addition to speed limits that I feel are too high. A 45 MPH limit on a road with lights means many drivers are doing 50-55, making it difficult to make left turns. Also, I-10 has so many lanes it can be very difficult to get over to an exit, without having to cross many lanes.

You shouldn't really be trying to cross five lanes of traffic in 5 seconds. As far as I'm concerned, the more lanes the better to ease some traffic. And I don't really see the left turn issue. The roads are flat so very few blind areas for oncoming traffic. I think our roads are pretty well designed, myself, except for the entrace ramps. Some are reallly badly placed and too short. Except for I-17, which is way too narrow. Feels like all the highways in southern California. Now those are some scary narrow, twisty roads.

It's funny, ya knw we all hear of these type of accidents and it really is surreal when it's one of your loved ones in that news story. It sheds a different light on things. For all of those injured or killed in this weekend's accidents, we are praying for you and your families...please pray for ours as well. One of those killed was my cousin, and he leaves behind a pregnant wife and two young children. He was a good man!

I don't buy that excuse. Normally street exit signs are posted on the freeway that indicate how far ahead in miles the exits are. Lets say you are going to exit Elliott off I-10 in Chandler which is 2 miles ahead, you have plenty of time to manuever from the far left lane to the exit lane. It's these idiots that are distracted by cellphones or talking to their passengers that suddenly swerve to the right to make that exit causing a potential hazardous condition. I see this all the time. It doesn't surprise me why the fatality rate is so high here. Fast drivers and a low presence of DPS officers patrolling make for an accident to happen.

No, the RV and trailer brigade usually don't show up until November. I did see a nasty motorcycle accident on 1-17 Saturday morning. I hope the driver and passenger are okay.

I read in the Phoenix Business Journal that historically, the heaviest day for traffic in Phoenix is Holloween(Oct. 31). Does this make sense to everyone? Last year did seem very bad that day. My family tends to agree...do most of you as well?

Around 9pm July 12 2011, I was driving eastbound on the i10 when a cop had his hand out the window telling everyone to slow down. Then we all come up to a few car accident that was in the middle divider. From what I saw, the two cars were stacked on each other. An SUV on what looked like a stationwagon. Both cars were sandwiched and it looked like they were both recently on fire. I believe they might have been trying to pull someone out of the drivers side in the car on bottom, the stationwagon. These two cars looked like they ran off the side of the road into the center and ran right into a cement drain of some sort. ?

I have been looking for news on it, but still can't find anything. Just the way the cars looked, OMG. This was around Casa Grande I believe. 9 something pm, july 12 2001.
