Driver of photo-radar van arrested for DUI
So let's get this straight: the driver of a van that is supposed to keep our streets & freeways safe from all those mean old dangerous speeders can't even obey the law himself! He sits on his butt all day in a photo radar van that cites people for driving a few miles over the ridiculously low speed limits ... but behind the wheel, he's doing something much more dangerous than speeding! Do we still need any evidence that photo radar is NOT about safety?! It's a boondoggle, and a lame attempt at revenue collection. I've always wondered what the bozos in these vans actually do, since they're not out patrol catching the real criminals. Now we have some evidence on what they do all day in the vans! Bottoms (* hic *) up! (* GLUG GLUG GLUG *) |

I would say it's ironic that something that is supposed to be about safety just about killed someone. But then we all know that the PR vans have nothing to do with safety and are all about fixing the budget deficit so I suppose irony isn't really applicable here.

Interesting, as well as sad, article, Valley
However, I believe these Photo Radar Vans are owned and operated by privately owned companies . . . NOT Governments Agencies and NOT Law Enforcement Officers or other Civil Servants. I definitely do not condone the actions of this Photo Radar Van Operator nor do I condone any form of DUI, but I also do not condone the reckless driving and the blatant disrespect so commonly displayed by so many "first person singular" drivers on our busy roads nowadays. For those who consider Photo Radar and Red Light Cameras nothing but "revenue generators" . . . SO BE IT. Unfortunately, "hitting someone in their wallet" is the only language they understand and an excellent way to eliminate these disrespectful thugs. Simple solution to eliminate these "revenue generators" once and for all . . . OBEY THE LAWS OF THE ROAD! |

Just another government contracter that had an extensive background check I'm sure. Background check=person who will work for minimum wage. But hey, I came from an area that has cameras at almost every intersection. I loved to watch them panic when they see the big flash. These are mainly setup to catch people running red lights since they're all on the secondary roads. Hit them in the wallet and pull their licenses. No other way. Just as a side note, where I was growing up in NY, there was a kid that kept stealing his mothers car to go for a joy ride. He was finally banned FOR LIFE from operating a vehicle in NY State.

I came upon one of those vans on 85 by the prison Labor Day weekend. My radar detector warned me in time and I slowed down and watched him snap someome else that passed by. I love it! If I ever get one of those tickets, I will relish beating it in court.

That's one of the few things I like about LA more than Phoenix-- there are no speed vans parked on the side of the road here! I have seen a bunch of red light cameras at various intersections around town, though they are way less common than in Tempe. The regime of placing speed vans is absolutely fascist. My very last day in Tempe when I was moving out, I got flashed by one on Broadway Rd & Dorsey, and I wasn't even speeding; I was going probably 20 miles under the speed limit actually (it was placed just after the intersection with a red light before). I got pretty freaked out, but no ticket or anything was mailed to me. Apparently those things just go off flashing people for no reason other than instilling fear in the general public. Whatever happened to the supposed "libertarian" streak of Arizona?
