Arrow Wildlife in central Phoenix (pic)

Central Phoenix neighborhood - - about 2 miles north from Camelback/20th St - where recently a neighbor claimed they saw a fox. The elderly gentleman doesn't get out much, at times conversations with him are are rather, um, odd. I passed off his claim in my head as "yeah, right", but offered the idea that perhaps he was seeing a coyote (though I've never seen a coyote in the neighborhood either). He responded to my coyote theory with "You think I'm crazy don't you?!" Honestly, I did until he showed me this, which is a shot of the wall in the back of his yard:

Two BIG thumbs up to RG for proving us doubting neighbors wrong!

There were coyotes in a park just a block away from my house around 21st Ave, near Metro Center. A few years ago, Fountain Hills, and northeast Scottsdale residents were seeing black bears in their neighborhoods digging through their trash bins for food.

You'll see wildlife in the valley where you least expected it.

Awesome! Foxes are great, and there are more of them in urban areas than people realize. And they are indeed quite crafty.

I'm sorry, but I'm sure all the sheep and cows and chickens who get eaten by foxes every year do not agree that foxes are great. You may think "awww, look at the cute foxy-woxy with his cute little nose and cute tail!", but they are not cute and they are a pest. A few years ago a fox got into an apartment complex in Manchester, UK and mauled a baby sleeping on a sofa. THAT is how much of a pest they are. They spread disease and pestilence wherever they go, and should be extremely curtailed.

Sounds like a very "1950s" view. Guess we should also get rid of bears, wolves, and hey plain ol' dogs have killed plenty of people so they should go too. Sharks, moose, the list goes on. Just kill everyhing that could possibly do harm to humans, right? Oh wait, then again the animal which kills more than any other on earth is the human.

We humans are part of an ecosystem and so are they. Foxes serve a purpose in this world and are an important part of the balance of the earth, just like other creatures.

Guess you weren't a big supporter of reintroducing wolves and grizzlies in the American West, eh?

People like you are the reason certain animals are extinct. I can't even begin to say how much I disagree with you.

Think... I beg your pardon? Did you read what Collins wrote in his message? I don't want to turn this into an animal rights debate, but wild and dangerous animals belong in the wild, not in urban areas. I have nothing against foxes or anything else, but when they start causing problems in urban areas, then it's only logical to do something about it. If you had a small child playing outside, and God forbid, was approached by a coyote or some other dangerous wild animal, I'm sure you'd do something to protect your child, instead of the animal.

I know if I had a child and I saw a dangerous wild animal that was getting ready to attack him/her, that animal would be dead in an instant from a bullet from one of my pistols or hunting rifles.

I see foxes all the time out here and never ONCE have they caused any problems. The coyotes on the other hand.... now THOSE can be pests, and dangerous ones at that! I wont even mention raccoons.

Very TRUE, I was running with my parent's German Shepherds in Litchfield Park near the golf course and noticed what I thought were dogs in the distance. When I got closer and could make out their form, I knew they were coyotes. I turned around but they charged. Luckily, Max and Princess gave them a good bite and outweighed them and sent them running. Princess (LOL, don't know WHY my mother named a GERMAN SHEPHERD, PRINCESS), almost tore my arm off when they charged me. If I was with smaller dogs, like my Chihuahua (Chompers ) it would have been a different story, especially for Chompers . Imagine a lady running with one of those "running baby stroller" contraptions. Plus, coyotes are much bigger than what that fox looks like.
