Hi I am moving to phoenix next month. My wife will be working at central and camelback and me in Tempe.
I am planning to rent an apartment to start with. Can any one suggest me the best location in terms of safety and commute time where I should be looking. I have freinds living in Chandler and I kind of liked that place but it might be huge commute for my wife. |

I would suggest considering the Arcadia neighborhood, which is located on the east side of Phoenix near the border with Scottsdale. Your wife would have a short commute to work via Camelback Road, and you could take 44th Street down to Tempe.
Arcadia is an older neighborhood by Phoenix standards, but it has increasingly become popular among a younger population and is now home to some popular restaurants and bars, with more being added all the time. Still, it is relatively quiet and safe. Rents will be highest along Camelback Road and will decrease as you move south toward Campbell, Indian School, Osborn, Thomas, etc. Another option is to live in the Downtown or Midtown areas, near Central Avenue. A location along the Central Corridor might allow you to commute to work via train once the light rail system, which will connect Phoenix and Tempe, opens in two years. |
