Question Restaurant--La Torretta in N. Scottsdale

Hi,

I haven't seen any mention of this restaurant on this forum. It's on the corner of Scottsdale Rd. and Frank Lloyd Wright.

Has anybody tried it? My mom wants to go but fears high prices and so-so food.

Thanks!

Hmm...no replies...with such a prominent location I thought a lot of people would have tried this restaurant. I guess this 'sorta' answers my question.

If you want Italian, try Maggiano's--->right across the street in Promenade. Very good Italian "family style" food. Reasonable priced. They have a "family style" dining if you want (they also do regular ala carte) where you pick X number of appetizers, X number of salads, X number of entrees, X number of desserts-->and they give you portions large enough to share (and doggy bag home since you will most likely have leftovers and get another meal out of it). In the mid $20-30 per person if I remember correctly.

Here is from my restaurant review post. We went there about a month ago to Maggianos.

Quote:
Maggiano's (FLW & Scottsdale in Promenade): Went here the other night for dinner with my sister who is in town from Vegas. Pretty nice place. Muy crowded when we arrived about 6:30ish. I would suspect they get a lot of business from the offices in Promenade, and that a large part of the clientele at this hour was still the "after work" crowd judging from their suits and ties.

The food was good-basic "homestyle" Italian for the most part. We did the Family Style service. You pick 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 2 entrees, 2 pasta dishes and 2 desserts, and they provide you enough portions for your party of each. Pretty reasonable-$26.50 per person. Tho some of the dishes will add additional to the tab per person.

We had the Caesar and Maggiano's salad. I only tried the Maggiano's-it was pretty good.

For appetizers we had calamari and fried mozzarella. Nothing like a warm fried hunk of breaded cheese with marinara. ;-)

For the pasta dishes, we had lasagna and ziti. For our entrees, chicken marsala and an Italian pot roast. For dessert, tiramisu and cream puffs with vanilla ice cream.

The food was generally good. Not "knock your socks off gourmet" kind of good, but "filling homestyle" kind of good. We ended up with lots of leftovers and they give you a doggy bag. Nothing "fancy"-ie this is a more "down home" type restaurant environment than say like Roka Akor in my last review. So things like fancy garni and palate cleansers (and $11 bottles of water...) and the like were notably absent. Which was ok because this just wasnt that type of place.

They do have a "main" menu where you can order everything ala carte. But by the time you order 1 entree and a salad, you are probably within a couple dollars of the range of the full Family Style serving menu.

Reasonable price. Especially as you will fairly assuredly have leftovers for a lunch or another meal. Kids would definitely more prefer a place like this than the last few I have written about.

I give it a thumbs up and recommend. Including for kids. If you are looking for "fufu" dining, not here. General homestyle Italian restaurant.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've eaten there many times and often carry-out food from there in order to avoid the crowds. Maybe La Torretta can't compete with them!

Thanks again for the reply!

Default Not a chain

I have never eaten there, but my sister and my mother thought that the food and service were well worth the price.

It's probably more of an understated fine dining establishment than a family-style restaurant. I would give it a try.

My mother LOVED her meal at La Torretta and thought her waitress was just awesome. I plan to try it sometime!
