Is area around Metrocenter mall safe?
I'm thinking of renting a condo next to Metrocenter mall. Is that area safe?

In the mid-80`s it was a nice place to shop. By the mid-90`s forget it. There are better areas to live in. Try out by Arrowhead if you want to be close to a mall. Not perfect, but better.

It's not the worst place in Phoenix, by far.
However, it's not the best, either.

Metrocenter has one of the highest vehicle thefts in the State...as someone mentioned years ago it was a nice place, today it's questionable.

Besides car thefts on the actual mall, I would consider it safe. I wouldn't mind living in the area.

i wouldn't want to live there - fairly industrial and metrocenter is a mess, although I think car thefts are overplayed as malls are usually the top places for autotheft nationwide ..... it's usually just a matter of which mall in a region will lead the way
i don't know if i'd feel unsafe - but i don't think i'd like the places in my immediate vicinity

I lived over there back 12 yrs ago and while it's not the best area, we felt safe enough to walk at night (I did several times by myself around the lake). Eventually, with all the police helicopters overhead we stopped walking at night and moved to somewhere safer. It wouldn't be on my list of places to live, unless I needed something cheap, but even still.

We live a mile north on 28th Drive. While incredibly affordable, these are the "events" that I have experienced over the last four years:
1. My vehicle was broken into. Smashed window, and the perpetrator split when the alarm went off. Nothing stolen, as there wasn't anything in there. (hint, hint) Two other vehicles were stolen within a month in the same lot.
2. Drunk driver caused $3000 damage to my vehicle while it was parked in our little community lot.
3. Community mailboxes were destroyed to get to the contents.
4. Grafitti comes & goes; tends to pop up more while school is out....
5. We tend to get a lot of panhandlers at the gas stations in our neighborhood.
We're outta here ASAP, but we've been singing that song for three years....
