New LA Fitness in Laveen
I heard they were going to be building a new LA Fitness behind the Walgreens at 51st Ave and Baseline. I even saw plans on a website somewhere, but haven't been able to see a time frame. Does anyone have information on this?

Thanks for the link. I received something in the mail the other day from LA fitness that indicated they would be coming to Laveen soon.

$29 a month max. You might go lower these days. Dont pay any other fees. They will try and hike up dues for joining, etc. Seek out some other gyms and get quotes, then use them in negotiations.
The LA Fitness gyms are nice and worth the monthly fee, but they are also crafty bastards should you want to resign your membership. I resigned but found that they dug up my application and began charging my credit cards. That's underhanded, but they quit it when I called them out. Still.
In any case, find 3-4 gyms, get some pricing, and play them against each other. It's your money. Make them work for it.

LA Fitness reps routinely camp out on weekends near the FRY's on Baseline and 24th St. I've stopped and talked to them a few times about when they plan to open. 6 months ago they told me 3 months. I spoke to them again this past weekend and they now say the site in Laveen will be open later this year between the end of November and the start of January. They said they haven't broke ground yet but 'it only takes us two months start to finish' to construct and open a new site.
They also mentioned plans to open one on the southwest corner of Baseline and 24th St with a planned opening of April '09.
I've been a member for two years and have been waiting for one to be built closer to my house. I'm still skeptical on their timeframe...I'll believe it when I see it.

I have Bally's membership, but they haven't built a new club in like 10 years. The nearest one is in Peoria for me. I am really excited about it.

When I lived in Tucson they had the L.A. Fitness reps camped out under a tent selling memberships too. The future L.A. Fitness was on First Avenue and Wetmore Rd. It seemed they would never get started, until one day I passed by and they were breaking ground.
Each day that I passed I saw significant progress; paved parking lots one day, half the building up one week. I'm not kidding, that building went up quick.

We got tired of waiting for LA Fitness so we joined the South Mountain YMCA.
