Hello everyone.
Thank you for reading this post. I am a snowbird who has bought a house in Maricopa. My husband and I are only 55 and will be wintering in a residential area, which is not always conducive for meeting other snowbirds etc.

Both my husband and I are quite social and we know that we will want/need to form/join a circle of friends to enhance the snowbirding experience. Quite honestly, while we love children, we have been there and done that and so are looking for like-minded people to share friendship with.

So, where does one start in a place like Maricopa? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to your replies.
Karen

Default Loved Maricopa

I was glad to see other snowbirds have bought a house in Maricopa, we currently have an offer in and are hoping to get it. We just loved Maricopa, especially Rancho El Dorado. After reading all the negative postings I was really suprised and happy. We looked in Queens Creek which was a lot farther out, as well as Buckeye, Suprise and other areas out east and liked this the best. There are more than enough stores there for us and major shopping, ie Costco, is only 15 minutes away in Chandler. Because we do not have to commute to work at all we were able to ignore the traffic concerns. A 1/2 hour to Sky Harbor airport is no big deal to us. I am very sorry to see the people of Maricopa suffering so badly with the credit and housing crisis, lets hope it bounces back soon for all of them and this town fulfills the great potential it has. We are prepared to wait it out. Hopefully we will here in a week or 2 about our house.

Thank you so much for the reply. Yes, I have read lots of negative things about Maricopa, but to each his or her own. We like the place and can see the potential for growth. The size doesn't bother me, nor does a commute or lack (somewhat) of ammenities - we come from a city that offers about the same and so this fits us like a shoe.

We were in Maricopa in the dead of summer *YIKES* to finalize things and get the house set up and without fail all of the neighbours were wonderful and friendly. Mind you, they are younger than we are and so I think that our commonalities might be minimal.

My husband and I are eagerly looking to make friends with other snowbirds.

Good luck in buying. If there is anything I can help you with, just private message me.

Try checking out www.MeetUp.com Whatever your interests are, there is probably a group for you.

Do you golf? If not, that's always a good activity for snowbirds to enjoy.

I think I am the rare exception - a snowbirder who doesn't golf. Thanks for the link!

Welcome to the neighborhood! What development will you be in?

It seems there are a lot of snow birds snatching up the low priced housing around here. You'll be far from alone. Check out these local sites to help find some people.
