Moving to Phoenix and Illigal Immigrants
Hello. I am looking to move to Phoenix and am looking for help.
What area is good for single “young professionals” to live?
I would like to be fairly close to the downtown area in a neighborhood close to parks/trails (I have a dog I walk at least 5 miles a day). I heard Scottsdale was is a nice place... Price is little of concern.
Also, what is the government doing to control the illegal immigrants... if anything?
Thanks in advance.

1. Tempe or Scottsdale (what price range are you in? if price is a concern they maybe not Scottsdale)
2. Toughest laws in the Nation but remember that Phoenix is still very close to the border.

North Phoenix is a nice area and you can get to Scottsdale in short order. We have illegals and with AZ being right on the border, you should expect to see them here and there. We function just fine driving just about any place we choose without any problem. Would suggest going cautiously in some areas at night or not at all.

Let this be clear!!!
In Phoenix, AZ illegal immigrants are absolutely positively with no doubt at all
EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The streets are full of them everywhere you go. I don't think anyone on this board will deny this.

Southern AZ has illegal aliens from South of the border where Northern AZ has aliens from outer space (ref: Fire In the Sky) so you got aliens of some kind all around AZ but they all do a good job blending in or staying out of sight.

I could not disagree more. Maryvale yes. But the City of Phoenix, Maricopa County and the State of Arizona is taking steps to see to it they are tougher then anywhere in the nation on illegal immigrants.
Chicago is actually 2nd in a report I read for illegal immigrants behind LA. Because PHX has made it clear that if you are in the country illegally you are not welcome they leave--most of the time.

thanks all
Thanks for all your comments. Actually I have lived/traveled all over the country and unfortunately seen a lot of places go down hill quickly, I am not trying to say the problems stem from immigration but rather the governments lack of growing a city properly. I believe its difficult to have a city prosper with so many cultures, mixed gangs groups, high children:teacher ratio ect. I do not want to judge Phoenix that why I posed the question. There is no use in me moving to another city that is going to end up like the one I just left. What is the government doing to control the illegal issue? Am I out of luck? Should I move to Mexico? I heard Tempe was a college town, do 30 something’s live there? It looks like Tempe, Scottsdale, and northern Phoenix have been suggested, are there many trails/parks/pedestrian and dog friendly sidewalks?

"Close to downtown" and "Scottsdale" don't mix. As a former downtown area resident, your walking will be limited to daytime hours, and only specific areas.
North Phoenix, specifically the Bridle path area, is your best bet. This would be anything from Bethany Road on the south, to Northern on the north, 3rd avenue to the west and 7th street on the east. The Bridle path is a dirt path, history says it was for horse rides years ago. Lots of people, dogs on the weekends, city movers and shakers quite often. McCains house faced it, former Governors live on or near it. And even with that you will see "illegal" appearing individuals at the bus stops, mostly domestic help or people commuting from areas just north of Dunlap. The zip is primarily 85012 I believe...try a search of 6000 north central on Realtor.com for a starting point.
I would recommend you carry maximum uninsured motorist coverage on your vehicles regardless of age/value.
And if you really wish to avoid the "illegals" problem...conside moving to areas close to the Mexico border that are upscale(relatively speaking). I live in Sierra Vista Arizona, 13 miles roughly from the border, we can see the mountains from our windows. Home of Fort Huachuca, Army Intelligence HQ's. And you can go to the store, even Wal Mart without hearing a word of spanish. You are more likely to hear European languages due to the spouses of military personnel. Rarely do we see a "illegal" like those in the Phoenix area. The Mexican people we see are here to shop, then return home. Their vehicles are generally luxury SUV's.
Another area to consider would be north east Tucson, Oracle. Beautiful areas, slightly cooler.

Thanks for the info. I looked into the Bridle path area, doesn’t look too bad although I’m having a heck of a time trying to pull up parks and trails in the Phoenix area. As for moving closer to the boarder, I don’t know how this “big” town gal would fit in a small town… that and finding a job might be difficult- only 43,000 people in Sierra Vista- WOW. I am pretty sure there is a high marriage rate for the long time residences. Well I guess you just cant have it all. What did you think of Scottsdale as far as trails/parks and lack of illegal’s?
