I think I'm the lone voice of the east side...Gilbert is a good town to raise a family. We loved it there but my wife works in Apache Jct and wanted to be close to work. There are several new hospitals being built in east Mesa. Lots of assisted living facilities, urgent cares, etc. Car dealerships are everywhere.
As far as being an interracial couple, I don't think you'll have any problems. Before I retired, I was accused of being a racist several times. The line was always, "you only stopped me because I'm black." I filed that with the other lines I heard, such as: 'you only stopped me because I have out of state plates', 'you only stopped me because my car is red', you only stopped me because I'm driving a BMW', etc. etc.
Thank God I never stopped a black driving a red BMW with California plates!

I live in a small neighborhood in east Mesa. There's a black family a few blocks away, my next door neighbor is Filipino, across the street is Hispanic and next door to them is Vietnamese. You are more than welcome in my neighborhood, and if you're interested in a 1717 sq. ft. house is east Mesa, there are 2 or 3 for sale on my block and I'd be happy to get the info for you.
