Could someone please explain the ins and outs of PV. I know that PV extends a lot further than just PV Town. Many people attend PVUSD and live in Phoenix. Can you actually live in Scottsdale and live in PV? Where are the slums of PV? I was looking at some satellite photos of a condo in PVUSD, and it sure as heck looked like there were two trailer parks (24th St. vicinity). Enlighten me. Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert at this but, Phoenix is divided into 15 urban "villages". For some reason they decided to name one of those villages, Paradise Valley (greater PV).
The Town of Paradise Valley however, is just south and is not associated at all with the urban village or its school districts. The school district you are referring to is mostly in Phoenix and has nothing to do with school district in the Town of Paradise Valley, which is Scottsdale Unified School District. The PVUSD is a HUGE district: it stretches from 7th st in Phoenix to Pima rd into parts of North Scottsdale. Unless you want to move further east; the neighborhoods will always have a mix. I hope that is of some help. Last edited by murphy2823; 10-09-2008 at 10:06 PM.. |

The town of PV is not that big of an area. But, please don't confuse this with the NE Phx area just north of there. This should be called nothing more than NE Phx. I was born and lived most of my life in this area. You can also call it the PV MAll area, if of course it's near the mall.
What I'm seeing are more and more people calling all parts of NE Phx Paradise Valley and it's just not correct. The biggest contributers are real estate agents making it sound better than it is and people who live there making it sound like they live in a great area, when in fact they usually are living in a horrible area (small part of NE Phx). It seems to be the newcomers that are mixing the two. People who have been there for years don't do this as much. The "slums" of NE Phx would be The Square. This is a one mile block between Greenway and Bell, and 32nd st and Cave Creek. It also blends in a little past these perimeters. Otherwise, the NE Phx area is a fairly good place to live. Though I'm very partial to the areas closer to Scottsdale. |

I was a little confused about this when I moved here over the summer as I'm close to the fake PV... I was like, this can't be the Paradise Valley I've heard so much about! And it isn't. The closer you are to Scottsdale, the nicer the area.

For a good elementary school, I would look north once again. Rentals will be more than $1000 in this area, not sure what it is these days, but last time I checked it was $1300 on up to $2000, or more. Let me know if you have any more questions. |
