Does anyone know, from the date you got flashed, how long it takes for the ticket to come in the mail? And, besides 120 days, what is a good amount of time after you've gotten flashed to know that you're in the clear?
Last question, are the photo radar vans located on the freeways any different than say vans in the cities, stationary photo radar locations, or red-light cameras?

Answers to these questions would be very helpful.

No **** Sherlock, but thanks for the condescending crap.
Isn't this is a thread for people who have already received tickets or who have advice on what the best course of action would be after getting one, and not one for sanctimonious jerkoffs who want to gloat?
Anyone have a real answer to my question?

I know it took exactly two weeks from the day I got flashed for my ticket to come in the mail. I have no idea about the rest of your questions, and I've never even seen one of these vans, just the stationary cameras.

Thank you and good luck fighting this BS.

I was driving on the 17 last night and slowed down for each camera (so smart, eh?). But at the last one, just as I was approaching the camera at probably 5 mph under the limit, a group of bikes came screaming past on both sides of me. Multiple flashes and I was the lone car in the pack. What are the chances I get mailed a ticket? FWIW, I was driving my 911, so anyone who looks at that photo is gonna see my car and just assume I was the speeder. I usually pull my visor down just before camera to avoid situations like this, but didn't see or hear those bikes until I was just before the camera sensor pads.

Default Photo Safety - Speed Enforcement

Hello all,

My car was recently photographed as going over the speed limit and subsequently, a non-citation warning was sent to my parent's house (because that is the address my car is registered at). They, without informing me, replied to the warning which asked for information to identify the driver. After they replied, the good ol' police department sent me an actual citation giving me 4 options, the only one that I could actually take up being paying the fine; a hefty 211 bucks.

Reading through these posts, it seems obvious that had my parents ignored the non-citation, I wouldn't be in this predicament. But seeing as how they didn't, I'm wondering if I could possibly still be able to avoid paying the fine. I am not completely sure if I am able to do this because of the citation that was mailed to me. So my questions are:

Have my parents compromised my ability to avoid the process server for 120 days by submitting my name to the police department? Or does the rule of having to be personally served still apply, and hence, allow me to avoid the process server for 120 days?

This is my awesome predicament. Can anyone offer any advice concerning the matter? As always, it will be greatly appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

My wife thinks she got flashed by a camera van in Scottsdale last week. I work from home, so I'll be the one dodging the process server for her. But there's a good chance we'll be moving before they come looking for us and maybe into a gated community. I think we're gonna play hide and seek on this one.

OK, well here is my situation. Like I had wrote on another post, I have two homes, one here in New York, where I live 6 months and one in Arizona where I live for a total of 6 months but not in one huge block. In April, I was at the corner of Union Hills and 83rd Avenue. There are two turning lanes there with fixed stationary cameras. I was in the right hand turning lane of the two. The problem is at this corner, the entrance to the 101 comes up immediately after you make the turn. Because the light is rather quick, as in it changes fast, people utilize both lanes. I have gotten caught in the left hand lane on may occasions and have not been able to "get over" and therefore have missed the entrance. Therefore, in April on this occasion, I was in the right lane so as to not avoid the entrance to the 101. The arrow changed to green and I was the seventh or so car in the lane to make the turn. It is clear that when I start off the arrow is green from the citation that was mailed BY REGULAR MAIL to our NY home. It is because the cars in front of me slowing down for the left hand lane to get over for this entrance to the 101, which caused my car to be caught in the box when the arrow changes to red, evident on the second photo scan sent to me out of the four. My ticket I received reads "Photo Enforcement Arizona Traffic Ticket and Complaint" as if it is the real ticket and notice of an impending ticket. They do not know my Arizona address and it is not stated on the ticket at all therefore, I will not be receiving any process server coming to my door. My husband called the toll free number on the ticket where you inquire about things and the woman said basically that I have four options. One is (a) pay the sanctioned fee $224 to Peoria Municipal Court AND go to an 8 hour Traffic Survival School online which I checked out and that costs $250; or (b) if you are not the person photographed on the ticket, identify the driver, which doesn't apply to me as it is me, or (c) request a trial/hearing to contest the citation (woman on phone stated that NO ONE EVER gets let off the ticket in court and that you will have to pay fine in option (a) and still will have to go to Traffic Survival School so basically it will revert to option (a) anyway and that isn't an option for me either as I live in NY and are here now so I would have a plane fare too to pay, or lastly option (d) which is attend a 5 hour Defensive Driving School that costs $275. Their is no option at all whatsoever for paying the fee and escaping these damn classes. The problem with the classes are that the one in option (d) has a certain amount of chapters that each have quizzes at the end, and then has a two part test WHICH MUST BE TAKEN in front of a notary public. That means I don't know what, I have to go to a real estate office and ask to sit there to take it or a lawyer's office? That seems bizarre. You then submit the first part of the online test to them and you must get an 80% or better. If you pass, then they let you take part II which means another trip to the notary's office. On that part you must get a 90% or better! If you fail either part, you must appear in court!!!!!!!! I am having stomach pains at just the thought of all of this. I have on the ticket I was driving 22 mph in a 40 mph zone, so no speeding at all. This is the first ticket I have received in 30 years and only one then. I think this whole thing is ridiculous. Now I don't know what to do if I should just forget this or what. I really don't have $500 for all of this AND my real question is how on earth would you avoid this from happening in the future short of being a mind reader as to when you can predict the light is going to change????

I totally understand your anger. I was expecting something like this would happen when using "dumb" machines (cameras) to judge human behavior.

Thanks, SpaceNeedle and ranman469. We were just going to do the whole class/notary online thing, but now we don't know what to do after reading this whole forum on the cameras. My husband was like, oh we should just ride it out and forget it. But I have this horrible feeling that whenever I am out there I will be terrified of being pulled over and put in jail, LOL! The stress isn't worth the trying to escape the ticket, you know? My husband also heard, like someone else posted, sorry forgot their name, that he heard too, the cameras are disappearing at the end of the year. Don't know if that is true or not. Forgot to mention, our good friends who live in Phoenix were driving in Scottsdale and luckily for them, a cop happened to be there sitting as he had just gotten a cup of coffee at the eaterie at that corner and was sitting in his car right by the camera. They were waiting at a light and all of a sudden, bam a white flash went off. The wife, turned to her husband and shockingly said, "did that camera just go off on us?" The husband, said "gee I don't know, but I think so!" When the light changed they crossed the intersection and pulled into a parking lot right near where the cop was sitting. He said he noticed the camera go off as well on them. They asked him what they had done and what would have caused them to have gotten a ticket. He said "yes, that she probably rolled forward, and her front bumper cleared the curb that ran along side the middle median. He said that is where the signal is in the street to activate the cameras during a red light and this would be what caused her to get a "red light infraction". She said, but we hadn't crossed over the crosswalk? He said it didn't matter, it goes not by your tired, but by where your front bumper of your car lays. So you don't technically even have to be driving if you cross over what they deem "the box". After much arguing back and forth, he said to them that the ticket would probably stand in court and there was nothing that HE could do about it cause it was a camera infraction and not something that he had written up. He told her that she could TRY and fight it in court but he didn't think it would get dropped. She ended up paying the fine in the end cause of all the aggravation of taking off from work and all. But it really has gotten nuts, I think and way out of hand.
