Hello there,

So I'm going to be moving to the Scottsdale area in about 3 weeks and I'm having a really hard time trying to find a "Decent" apartment complex in that area. I have been on some other boards and cannot get a good answer. Basically I'm looking for a 1 bedroom between 650-750 that is not a complete s hole. Does anyone know the names of any places that is in or around Scottsdale/Phoenix that is ok that is not in the complete ghetto? I would even take a nice part of Phoenix but know nothing about it all I read is that its completely ghetto.I have been on Rent.com and the reviews these people write basically trash every complex that there is. I'm starting to think its a little far fetched that every place is that bad and its just losers who have nothing better to do so they go on and just trash the places. I have no real other stipulations except for a pool, and close to the Casino Arizona.

My family is from Scottsdale, the 650-750 will be a little hard. But the area is beautiful. Ive never seen ghetto in Scottsdale. There is nice apartment complexes all over the Phoenix area stay north or try Mesa too.

Your price range is too low for Scottsdale. That's the most expensive area. So much depends on where your job is. You DO NOT want to live far from where you work. For $825, you can get a 1B/1B and $875 for 2B/2B in the Dreamy Draw area where I live. It's centrally located near Northern Ave. and SR51. I'm equidistant to 3 main mall areas and within walking distance of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. The area is quiet. IF your job is North of Shea Blvd. in Scottsdale then this is a good location: your commute would be easier as your heading out when everyone's heading in (and vice versa in the evening). IF your job is South of Shea, then you're better off in Central or South Scottsdale, where I think rents are cheaper. North Scottsdale is the most expensive, I believe. Living in Mesa or Tempe means commuting on the 101 which is a tough commute. It's a tough call, I know, many apartments are not attractive. But, in reality, plan on $800 or so for a decent apartment here. I've seen two bedrooms for $650 about a mile from me but I'd slit my wrists before I'd sign a lease. By the way, rents here are increasing. Expect 5% rise in the next year or so. Many of the best apartment complexes went condo. In fact, mine did last year--THEN reverted back to apartments! The market shifted so dramatically. I almost bought because I have a 270 degree view of the mountains and I'm very happy here. Oh well, I'm typing WAY too much!! Hope this helps.

Unfortunatly you are moving to Phoenix at a bad time for renters. A year ago you would have had no problem finding a cheap apartment but things have changed. A lot of apartments converted into condos over the last few years leaving the remaining apartments in high demand. Basic economics are the result of course, prices were jacked up. The other result to the condo conversions were the many purchases by real estate investors that bought up as many as they could only to sit on them and flip them for profit later. Currently the market in Phoenix is not so hot and a lot of these condos are being rented out pretty cheap. I would suggest contacting a local realtor about renting a condo or doing some internet searches for condo rentals. I am not just making this up, I was renting an apt. and they wanted to jack my rent up when my lease expired. I found a condo that is in a better area, bigger, has better amenities and its cheaper , plus they don't ********* as bad as the apt. complex's do with deposits and fees. You might even be able to find something in Scottsdale, if thats your thing. Hope this helps.

Your price range might be a little low for Scottsdale, but if can swing it, look into San Carlos located in North Scottsdale. I lived there in 2000. It was the best complex I've lived in out here. I think I was paying 600 or 625 back then, but I don't know what they charge now. They also have a sister property called San Marcos located down the street from them. Also, check out rent.com

Unfortunetly, the rental market is sky high in Scottsdale. It's because of the condo conversions and the out of control market. You will not find a 1 bedroom in that range that has no issues. Even Phoenix is much higher. Many tenants are upset because rents were much more affordable a couple of years ago.

Are you kidding me? Never seen ghetto in Scottsdale. South Scottsdale is a ghetto and the mayor is diligently trying to clean it up. North Scottsdale is nice buy way overpriced. I agree with you about the nice complexes in Mesa or Phoenix but they will not find anything decent there for that rent.

South Scottsdale is still ALOT better than other parts of the valley. And, I agree. You're price may be too low for scottsdale.

South Scottsdale is a serious ghetto. My girlfriend lived in the Palladium apartments, the most expensive in the area, and had her car broken into twice. I lived in a house a mile away and there were 20+ burglaries per month in the neighborhood, which was one of the better ones in south Scottsdale. A friend in the area had her car broken into. Don't even thinking about living south of Camelback Rd.

Ever been to Maryvale? Try living there.

I think that with a little work, south Scottsdale will, in time, be one of the more desirable parts of the valley.
