CityNorth isn't completed yet. In fact, the first phase isn't scheduled to open until the middle part of November. You can view details on this development by going to the following websites:
CityNorth's first phase preps for Nov. 13 debut - Phoenix Business Journal:
CityNorth

I'm not sure if you're looking for a condo in an actual retirement community or not ... but CityNorth doesn't appear to be targeting retirees as their main focus. You might want to try other sections of the metro area that cater exclusively to retirees. Sun City, Sun City West, and Sun Lakes are the communities that instantly come to mind when thinking of retirement. You'll certainly get plenty of sun ... in terms of sunshine, and the names of these communities!

Toscana is directly across the street from CityNorth. It is opened already. Those are the brown stucco buildings at the northwest corner of Deer Valley & 56th. I am not sure the OP wanted exclusively retirement or just a "condo resort with good location". If the latter, Toscana meets the bill. If the former-you can call them and see what they offer because I don't know if they have an express "retirement" portion.

You have a freeway exit nearly right out your front door to the 101 for easy access. Directly across from CityNorth-initial phases of retail start opening next month. The big retail (Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Macy's) are slated for late 2010 opening. I am not sure when the "loft over retail" type units start opening, but would presume they open as the retail does.

CityNorth is directly east of Desert Ridge Marketplace, which includes a movie theater and zillion more restaurants and retail.

Toscana is right up the street from Mayo Clinic. Very near the Wildfire Golf Course (if you golf). Within a few miles of other courses (TPC, Kierland are the ones I know about-I dont golf, so there may be more). Nearby spas-Marriott Desert Ridge, Westin Kierland, Fairmont Princess. Just a few minutes from Kierland Commons and Airpark.

Mayo 101 is within about 3 miles-which has a nice movie theater and more restaurants and shops.

This is a very nice area. A lot of construction going. Just a few miles east you will eventually have Palisene and One Scottsdale (at Scottsdale & the 101).
