Default Teaching jobs in the PHX area?

I'm considering becoming a teacher and I'm wondering what the market is like for teaching jobs in the PHX area? I am willing to go anywhere in the metro area but would prefer to stay away from bad areas. What are teacher salaries like there, and how will the salaries compare to the high costs of living in PHX?

You can research most of the school districts and their salary scales online. Just find their websites. I think they mostly start somewhere around $32k these days, more if you have a master's degree. If you're single that won't buy you an average home anymore.

My bestfriend became a teacher and after a half a year she was out! She taught in a good district in a good middle class neighborhood. After going back to school to get her cred. she found out it wasn't for her. But, we also have friends that are teachers and they love it.

I was a teacher for about five years. You can research some of the info you requested at the Arizona Department of Education website. Beginning salary is about $30,000-$32,000. I worked at Litchfield school district, Washington and Peoria. Some others to consider are Deer Valley Unified and Paradise Valley school district. You can view their job openings at the school's individual web sites.

Ok thanks for the info. I'm still considering a lot of options and trying to figure out something that I will like while I'm still young.

There are some web sites that list edu resources, you may want to check employment sites to get an idea of the teaching jobs out there; k12jobs.com has a many job postings.

If you are in Sped, have a Masters, and have experience you will make more. I'm actually pulling 60K this year. 56K base plus $40 per hour to tutor for AIMS. It works out to a little more then 60K total.

However, my base in Cali was 72K. But it seems so much easier to save $$ here in Phoenix.
