Default Thinking about driving from Phoenix into Vegas

Is this a nice scenic route? Recommended with toddler (whose pretty good as a passenger)?

Route 93 between Phoenix and Las Vegas is generally considered dusty and dangerous. Traffic levels suited to an interstate highway are crammed onto a road not designed for that much use.

You might want to consider flying instead. Airfare between the two cities is quite inexpensive and there are dozens of flights each day. The flying time is only 45 minutes, leaving you more time to enjoy the scenery in each city.

I've done the drive a couple of times and it stinks.

You go through a forest of Joshua Trees which is different, but the road is small (two lane) and there are almost no towns along the way. Long stretches of nothing. It gets old very quickly. I can't imagine it with a small child.
