Our rural areas are instrumental in food / fuel production, and will become more economically important as we reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. These areas (and the people who live there) will get plenty of attention from the national government, no matter which party is in control.
a 1 person, 1 vote system is not viable...But lets say we had that...Obama still won. George Bush isn't president the last four years.

Hardly. Snopes is highly regarded for giving factual research. And they give references for everything which is much more than do the prejudicial sites that you folks quote.

My point was almost 1/2 of america voted for another republican with a 16% approval rating of the one in charge! what does that tell you?? I'm with you on this...obama got VERY lucky! if GW's rating was 40% or better the outcome would have been different..thats all!

If Obama had been named something like James Watson, rather than his Muslim-sounding name, he would have received at least a few million more votes from those who are driven by fear.

First of all......the only ppl who bring up racist subjects are obama supporters.....go figure....I don't care if the dude is green white blue or purple......I don't like his church and I don't like his friends or his actions......secondly....The only reason he was elected is because it became about race when race had nothing to do with it.....if he were white he wouldn't have won out over hillary.

How did he win the Iowa caucus on a race platform? He won over Hillary because he presented himself as a more calm and unifying figure than her.

I only bring up Obama's "lost votes" in response to the what-ifs posed by the McCain backers. In fact, the what-ifs are endless:

McCain lost votes because:

He was running against a black man.
Palin, and the choice of her.
His negative and unorganized campaign.
Lack of money.
Moved farther right from his maverick roots.
Political poison of Bush and Republican party.

Obama lost votes because:

Hi is a black man.
He has a Muslim name.
Questionable associations.
Inexperience

Lots of this cancels each other out, but the two most important factors were the political poison of Bush and the party, and Obama's campaign money.

Both of them seem like good dudes who deeply care about the country.
