Kdog is right. It's a great way to go. But I did find that entering and exiting those small towns, beware there are police waiting in the area to trap you. It's their primary income for those little towns. They are usually located at one end of the town or the other near the city limits. Don't take any chances, watch your speed.

Man, that's discouraging. Looks so out of the way. I'm in Bakersfield now and had planned to go to Barstow and then take 40 to 95 and those small roads through Parker. I loved the ride on 60. My radar detector saved me once. There were just no cars there at all. It was nice. Sacramento to B'field today was quite a grind. I averaged about 80-85 most of the way. I really want to stay away from LA tomorrow.

Good suggestion. I love the scenery along that road. Plus you get to go through historic Amboy.
Make sure you fill your tank in Ludlow.

Supposedly, but I wouldn't take any chances. It's a long way to 29 Palms otherwise.

Gawd, I froze today until just past Barstow. I got off I-40 at Needles, went down 95 to Vidal Junction and then 62 into Parker, 95 to 72 to Hope and then 60 to Wickenburg. What a fantastic ride that was once I got off I-40. On 72 I was doing about 100 mph, all alone, thinking I was going pretty fast, when four F-16's screamed past at about 1000 ft., doing many times my speed. Radar detector saved me a few times. 2000 miles in the last seven days and no tickets! Not bad.

wow great ride.
Even when I am working down at the roadside table about mp 172 on hwy 93 those jets buzz through there pretty close and put on a great show.
Welcome to Phoenix.

Here's Rt. 60 last Wed. morning.
Big Sur on Friday morning.
I wish I had stopped to take more photos, but each stop is a bit of a production, pulling off the wires to my radar detector and ear pieces, removing gloves, digging out the camera and then getting back onto the road.
