Living in Surprise or Peoria
We are moving from Indiana to the west valley. I have a new job working in the Sun City / Surprise area. The office/morning meeting place is in Youngtown actually. My wife still needs to find work after we get settled. We have no young children so schools are not an issue although better schools usually go along with better communities.
We are starting to do some house shopping. We like Surprise and north Peoria. North Peoria, north of Bell Road are the only parts of Peoria I have been in.
We would like to get comments on what people like and/or dislike about living in these cities? Shopping, entertainment, employment, etc.?
What is the rest of Peoria like?
Home prices for similar homes seem to be higher in Peoria, any reason for that?
Thanks,

Since OP is working in Youngtown, why create a commute from North Peoria when Surprise is closer?
Plenty of bank-owned houses well under $200k, some of which have oversized garages. Although I would still recommend renting a house for your first year, but that is your call.
Some Surprise subdivisions that are nice (there are plenty of others) include Legacy Parc, Marley Park, the Orchards, and Ashton Ranch. Some longer established subdivisions (mostly mid to late 1990s construction) include West Point and Kingswood Parke.

Do you prefer the North Peoria Wal-Mart where that guy shot and killed people in the parking lot a couple of years back?
Trust me, if Surprise developed a crime problem, I would be the first to post about it.
