Default Ok, here is a ? - When was there FOG in PHX?

I was talking with my office and old homestead folks today back in San Diego (yes I am another CA transplant) and we were talking about the fog at the airport. It got me thinking....is there ever fog here? Or is it just toooo dry at ground level all the time..?

I've only lived here in Phoenix for a couple years, but i've never seen any at the airport. Maybe smog was a problem, but actual fog? There was fog by globe last weekend. Rain, fog, snow. Scary stuff.

The fog was so bad in January 1991 that SkyHarbor was closed for a few hours. America West was still serving free drinks, and you could get a shot of Tequila for a buck with beer purchase, at the lounge.

Fog is very rare ... but usually after a good winter rain, there is fog for a brief while. Sometimes thick fog occurs in the morning hours when the skies clear after a winter storm. Of course, the dew point would have to be the same as the outdoor air temperature for this to happen, and that would put the humidity at 100%.

Also, fog during the summer monsoon is even more unusual ... but it can happen sometimes if there is enough moisture & cool air generated from a thunderstorm. There was fog at Sky Harbor Int'l one evening in August of this year following a severe thunderstorm.

You will see fog usually at night or very early morning right after rain in the winter. And it does not happen every year.

There was quite a bit of fog early monday morning on my way into work - on the I-10 near Chandler. It looked so freaky because we do not see it here too often.

I live on the north central side of town, near Bell and Central, and I do not remember a winter without at least some fog. Wetter winters = more fog
