Schools not great. They were getting a bit better during the boom, then when everything collapsed things started sliding again. My nephew lives there, but they drive the kids to school in south Chandler. Much better schools there.

You can research crime rates on azcentral.com, or contact the poiice department there.

It's all a guess, of course, but I don't share your enthusiasm for Maricopa. I think it is going to be basically the same as SW Phoenix, SE Avondale, Laveen etc - namely, lower middle class with early decay into "Maryvale". If I were looking at an affordable, but distant area, I would be much more attracted to Queen Creek. I think QC will be a poor man's Gilbert for a while, but eventually emerge as a nice place to live.

Oh, thanks. I didn't notice that. Four years ago I would have thought things were better for Maricopa than I do today, as well. It got leveled pretty good by the recession tsunami.

Our oppinion on Maricopa has changed some after the downturn in housing. I hope it comes bouncing back along with the rest of AZ.

Unless you need 3000 SF of home for your family, IMO, buying a 1200 SF home in Central that would rent for 975 per month, would be a better move than buying a 3000 SF home that only rents for 900 in Maricopa (for the same 70K). One word: GAS.
