Default Cozy Music Venue?

Can anyone recommend a small live music venue which features either jazz vocals and/or folk acoustics? Is there an area of Phoenix or surrounds that supports this kind of entertainment with nearby local (not chain) restaurants?

Looking for an intimate night out 'in the city' with some out-of-town friends.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Place called Char's on 7th ave just south of camelback thurs, sat, and sun have a live ban and is pretty upbeat. Usually funk, jazz, r&B, 70 & 80's hits.
Another place called Volche's which is actually an itallion resturaunt, but on friday and and sat evenings host a live jazz band. It's on Hayden in North Scottsdale.

I'm curious myself to see what other spots are out there

My favorite is "The Beaded Lizard Gathering", a weekly wednesday night event, held at the
Devonshire community Center on 28th street, just north of the I-10. Note: the center is closed tomorrow and the 31st, due to holidays. This is a free gathering, with an opportunity to donate, if you wish to. They schedule both national and local folk / acoustic musicains, and the general level is quite good. Other venues include the Glendale Library folk music sessions, every other Wednesday, check website for dates and performers. Monday night melodies at the Peoria Library, again, check website, or Fiddlers Dream Coffee house. . . used to be the best place in town, but, in my opinion at least, that has changed dramatically in the past couple of years. They still do feature some good performers, mostly in the folk realm, but I have heard to much amatuerish dreck there to wholeheartedly recommend it without knowing who will be performing. There is a cover charge, they are open Fri and Sat. nights, located on 18th st just north of Glendale. There is also a nice place called the Music Corner, acoustic folk, Saturday night, at Shepard of the Valley Luthern Church, 15th Ave. and Bethany home?. . . they also have a webstie, check for exact location and times/ performers. If you can catch some specific performers, at any of these venues, I would highly recomment. "Halfway Home", folk trio; Larry Jolly, originals; 3 legged Dog; the Artichoke Sisters; Tom Tuerff originals; Linda Bilque, originals; Dave Baumann, lesser known folk covers (with the best interpetation on these that I have ever heard); I.Q., folk covers and originals; Dave and Barbara, folk covers; well, I'm sure there are plenty of others, there is a lot of talent in the local folk music community. Note: Except for Fiddlers Dream, all venues are on a "donation only" basis. Good Luck

Jazz and blues singer Margo Reed with a jazz quartet, on Monday nights at Kazimierz in Scottsdale. Locals call it Kazbar.

They have a 128 page about 3200 bottle wine list. If you plan on having a bottle of wine, I suggest to view the list online before going there.

Kazimierz World Wine Bar - Downtown Scottsdale

Google for other jazz venues. That's how I found this one.
