Selling plasma and other ways to get money
My friend is homeless and in need of a way to survive until he can find work. Where can you sell plasma? What places buy scrap metal and old appliances? Do you have any other suggestions for a homeless person, with no transportation, to earn money?
Thanks

I'm not sure if plasma from an alcoholic would be useful to anyone, surely it would be tainted or something, and perhaps he needs all he has for his own recovery.

Actually, he is trying very hard to not drink. He is in a program but about to be kicked out because he can't afford it. He desperately wants to stay sober.

I am sorry some of the people here are not so empathetic about your friend's situation. I have read in the paper classified that there are places that buy blood products. Not sure where exactly. But you could google online for him. But if his blood tested not to be up to their standards, they will not purchase from him the 2nd time. Plus a person can only give every 8 weeks.
Scrap metal business is in the dump too. The global economy slow down has affected the purchasing power of foreign countries, like China. I think the prices has gone down a lot. Not sure if he would get anything decent if he was to collect metal to sell.
He should try contacting Salvation Army and Catholic Charities for help.

Maybe take him down to the CASS shelter in downtown Phoenix and ask if they ever get requests for day laborers. Although, like the other poster says, he'd better dry up if he wants to find work. Sorry to sound harsh.

I used to give plasma in college to have money for the bar. It paid $16, and they allowed you to come every 48 hours. That seemed excessive to me, and I can't imagine it's healthy. Aside from college kids, all I saw in there were scary looking folks. I hated the process; it took forever, taking blood, extracting plasma, over and over. But I had beer money.
