Jobs for high school grad/housing in Phoenix
I'm going to graduate from a high school in Illinois soon and I want to move to Arizona so I can gain residency and apply to ASU. Me and a friend have thought about this for quite sometime and I thought how is the job outlook for a high school grad? Are there some affordable housing there as well? I don't want anything luxurious but somewhere livable. Thanks

You won't get any decent paying jobs. You should look into student housing and live on student loans for the first semester, this gives you time to find a job, and save up money for security depositits and such.
Housing near Tempe is expensive, so good luck.

I'll disagree with the previous poster - housing near Tempe is not expensive. There are countless affordable apartments near ASU. You should be able to find a 2BR for under $700 without much difficulty.
As a high school graduate, you won't find a decent-paying job. But if you're splitting rent, you should be able to live.

You're doing the same thing I did many years ago. There are lots of older and cheaper sections of Phoenix. A friend of mine rents a 2 br house in Phoenix for $900 a month. That price includes water. There used to be plenty of minimum wage jobs, it's been a while since I needed to worry about that. As long as you are dependable you shouldn't have any trouble finding something.

Did you also move to arizona to gain residency? With the way the economy is here in chicago, I thought job searching would very difficult. Thanks guys for the info. I may need a roommate which is fine with me.
