Laveen and South Mountain area restaurants
I have lived in the Laveen/South Mountain area for just over 2 years now. For the most part there is a lack of good sit down restaurants and reviews of them. I just thought I would post this thread for a discussion of some of the restaurants that might be out there, but people don't know about.

I went to Amano Bistro (12th St and Baseline, south side of Baseline) for the first time on New Years Eve and found it to be quite good. It is a very small quaint Italian trendy restaurant. It is a little pricey, and would not say that it is kid friendly. Although I did see a couple of small children there, I'm not sure what the kids ate because they didn't seem to have a kids menu nor did they offer the usual spaghetti or chicken fingers.
For the appetizer we had the rajas gratin which is toast points with a creamy casserole with chile, mushrooms, garlic, and onions. It was very good. My wife ordered the gnocchi and I had a penne pasta with sausage. Both were pretty good. They had quite a few pizza dishes which looked pretty good from what I saw people ordering and the prices weren't bad for the pizza. Overall it is a nice restaurant, and worthy of taking out of town visitors to. It also has nice ambience and is definelty worthy for parents who are just having dinner alone without the kids, but don't want to drive too far.
Here is a link to a site with a review and some pictures of it.

Trails End Bar and Grill at Legacy Golf Resort
Has anyone been here?
I checked the website and drove by there. The views look awesome, but I was wondering how the food was?

There's a darn fine little diner on 43rd Avenue just South of Buckeye Road. I seem to recall it is the TexAzCali diner. They have a special Monday through Friday and I think they are open for breakfast. It's been a while but I recall the food was great.

I went to the Chinese Buffet at 35th Ave and Southern. It seems to be pretty good with a wide assortment of food. We went there on a Friday which they had snow crab legs included, and they couldn't replenish it fast enough. It is probably the busiest restaurant in the entire area, and seems to offer a good value for the number of items included in their buffet. They also have a stir fry station where you can pick what you want and they will fry it right there for you. My family thought it was pretty cool.
I still want to check out the Trails End Bar and Grill in the Legacy Golf Resort (32nd St and North of Baseline). Probably won't get to do so until next month.

Has anyone been to the T-Bone Steakhouse off of 19th Ave and Baseline? I knew there was some place up by the preserve, but hadn't heard about it until recently.

I've eaten their several times. I love the menu because it has 5 items: steak, steak, steak, chicken, and steak. Your sides are salad, baked potatoe, bread and beans. The steaks are well prepared and the view is impressive.
I remember eating their one evening and watching a thunderstorm rolling through the West valley. I was impressed with the meals and views.

Yes the T Bone steakhouse used to be a great place to eat when I lived in Laveen. I just checked some reviews and some sound like its not as a good as it used to be.
Double check with Maricopa county restaurant inspection reports prior to visiting any place to ensure all is well behind the scene.

I'm definetly going to check out the Steakhouse place. We recently went to Li's Bowl off of 35th Ave and Southern. While it is not a restaurant with a server, the food was a mixture of Japanese and Chinese food. It was pretty good. The menu is a bit limited and if you are used to getting a combination of things you won't find them there. However, the food was good, and if you like sushi, you may want to take a look. Other than that Chinese Jumbo buffet, it is probably the closest place that offers it. I'm going to go back later and check out their California rolls.
Has anyone been to Shaky Jake's barbecue located in the same strip mall? I went by there and it smelled really good. When I was working the night shift, I drove by that area and saw them in there late at night smoking the ribs.
