Mesa is also suffering terribly in this economy because the city has no property tax and laid off almost half of its city employees (don't remember the exact number)

Is this true??
I was under the impression there is property tax based on Mesa property listing data.
If this is true, it may explain why I haven't yet received a tax bill for my property since COE last fall. Unless it's just a coincidence.

What are the cross streets? 85201 covers a few different areas. I know Mesa well.

Not sure where 85201 is, but I lived in 85204 and loved it. It can't be that far away, but if it is west of there it may be a little iffy...

My son (25) hates the cold weather in PA so he decided to up and move to AZ sight-unseen. He got an apartment in Mesa -- I'm sure it was the cheapest place he could find as he's just delivering pizza for a living. He became disillusioned because of all the crime, and finally decided to move back when his car was broken into as it was parked outside one night. To top it off, he got in an accident driving back (lost control on ice in the dark) and totalled the car. I felt SO bad for him. Anyway, I just think he had a rude awakening about the reality of crime in the Sunbelt cities, after having grown up in the chilly but relatively safe suburbs of Philly.

East Mesa is a nice area. North east Mesa near Las Sendas is a great area with quick access to the north 202 loop for commuters. Very low crime rate up there and lots of nice homes. Mesa has a lot of multi-million dollar homes.
North Mesa has a lot of very nice older homes with larger lots from 1/3 acre and up. Many of those older communities don't have HOA's, and the communities are well kept up by the residents.
The City of Mesa web site has crime statistics for all of the districts. It lists the number and type of crimes in each of the areas.
