Default Which is more upscale Gilbert or Chandler?

Considering moving to Arizona from Utah. Want to live in an esthetically pleasing and safe area?

The title of your thread asks about which is more "upscale", your post talks about "aesthetically pleasing and safe". So, I'm not sure what you are asking. Aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder. There are areas in both these cities that are not upscale, but are still aesthetically pleasing, and most likely safe. There are people here who prefer one city over the other, for different reasons. Maybe if you give us a better idea what you are really looking for, we can help more.

They are indentical. Its just a matter of who will refurbish their downtown first. I hope they both do. Money magazine ranked them both as great places to live.

Chandler is more upscale. Both communities are safe and aesthetically pleasing. However, Gilbert is more of a family community due to a stronger presence of Mormons.

I'd give Chandler a slight edge on the upscale scale. Parts of it are pretty ghetto though.

We are looking to relocate to the Chandler area. Which areas are "ghetto"? Which areas should we avoid?

Thanks.

Chandler, like many cities here, once was home to people who labored in the surrounding fields. Those original areas are largely impoverished, with higher crime and some gang activity depending on city. You are not going to be looking anywhere near there. The tony part of Chandler you seek is a long ways away. So don't worry about it.

No. I think the person was thinking around Arizona Ave north of the southern portion of the 202. Somewhere between Ray Rd and Chandler Blvd east of Arizona Ave but not extending to McQueen Rd.

There's so many it's mind-boggling, huh? I was referring the lovely developments along Frye where the cross streets are named after states and cities. That is generally south and east of AZ Ave and Chandler Blvd. In fairness, I haven't spent much time over there since that was Chandler. I am more familiar with the western part over by Ahwatukee which is nice.
