If you had to choose from a 2nd or 3rd floor apartment.. What would you choose and why?

Second floor has it's benefits.. less stairs to climb, every single day.. but your 100% sandwiched..

Third floor would have a better view I guess.. You wouldn't hear the neighbors up stairs. But you would have direct sunlight hitting your roof all day, and heat rises..

Not sure what decision to make... What would you do?

Thank you

Tough choice, I would try to find out from the manager or leasing agent if your neighbors above have children. Not that it would matter much since you might get new neighbors with kids.

So to answer your Q, IDK.

I live on the 2nd floor, only because it was the only apartment available in my complex. My neighbors below me seem to get mad when I play the music loud.

I will tell you from experience do not move to the 3rd floor! LOL! Moving all your things up and then down the stairs is horrible. I lived in an apartment on the 3rd floor and after I moved, I said never again. Also, during the summer, it seemed really hard to cool. During the winter, however, we never even turned our heater on and that was in Arkansas! Plus, I had a baby I had to wag up and down the stairs which was not much fun either. I did lose weight while I lived there though .

Ooh that is a toughy! 3rd floor would be miserable moving your furniture when you move in (and out). And all those stairs! However it would be nice if you didn't have anyone above you. When I lived on a 1st floor and had someone above me I could always hear them walking, sliding open their closet door, etc. It wasn't obnoxiously loud or anything, it was just something you could hear. As for what I would choose...not sure! But good luck :P

I recently moved my son into an apartment and specifically chose the 3rd floor apt. that was available!

1)SAFETY - although he moved into a relatively safe complex, the complex does not have entrance/exit gates, nor FT security. Therefore, there are occassional break-ins (I suppose theives assume that if you live in this complex, you definately have a laptop or two, HDTV's, XBox, PSP3 and a other electronics ). Such break-ins are always (in his complex) to the first floor apartments and 90% of them through the sliding glass doors via balcony or windows. There was no way in h*ll he was going to live 1100 miles away on the 1st floor

2)Noise level (or lackthereof since he's the top floor) and cathedral ceilings were plusses, as well as less to heat/cool his apartment!

Moving all the furniture was horrible, but we hired a few day laborers and got everything up there within an hour.

I went with second floor. I would hate all those stairs. My neighbors are quiet enough, I rarely hear them unless I happen to be outside and we all have our doors open.

Is living on the main floor really that bad? I have two kids and figured it would be better if we were on the first floor(haven't moved in yet). That way nobody would have to listen them bouncing around.

I always choose the top floor. And I don't care whether stairs or elevator. I always think I'm burning extra calories anyway by taking an additional flight of stairs. There is only one downside to living at the top - warm air rises and your place will get sunshine faster than the floors below you. For me, not having some bozo above make unnecessary noises at odd hours is what I go for.

There are a few places where you cannot hear anyone above you, but they are very expensive. Better construction that provides a buffer between floors. I don't know of any apartments like this - yet, but I imagine loft buildings around town may have such luxurious features as that.
